Someone probably sneezed a few doors up and caused a draught all those years ago.... and so the Coptic stories came to pass.

No it wasn't. I had only to pour my beer with less froth, when I had my fish at the sea front in my favourite tavern at Nata beach. :D

Does anybody know what the 21 Oct Coptic Storm is supposed to be? Is it a storm, wind, sand, or religious conversion attempt? It is called the Crusade.

All the Coptic Storms are supposed to be gales, if they really existed. See http://www.angelfire.com/sc/isycjromer/Coptic.html for the dozen or so St Swithins.

Hey I googled "coptic storm" and this thread was fourth in the results. :)

I thought some of them were supposedly more to do with winds.

The coptic gales fact or fiction? After 17 years here, it seems as if its really hit and miss whether we have a winter storm which happens to coincide with one of the coptic dates. Some years we have had a severe winter with precipitation, storms, snow or heavy rain. Other winters we have mainly mild and dry weather, with occasional rain. I can't see that there is any definite link to the coptic gales.maybe its more a myth now a days. In days gone by there was no accurate way of predicting the weather, hence the folk lore which exists around these gales!!

Dee. . . . . . . . . .Thankyou for your input and your personal experience expressed.

Not that 'Our Dev' needs it, nor has he ever required backup of any kind but, I am delighted to see it from one who has had proper experience just like the great man himself. ❤❤❤

Looks like October 21st for "The Crusade" was a bust.

Don't give up just yet, Dom. Coptic Storm timetables do allow a 48 hour window either side of the predicted dates. So the weather that is due to affect Cyprus tomorrow, Tuesday 24 Oct, might be counted as the Crusader coptic gale, IMHO? :?

So you are saying that we should allow a 7 day range? It would be difficult to pick 13 dates that don't have storms in them in that case.

So no, they can't count. Besides, the storms haven't arrived yet. :)

The weather predicted for today and tomorrow is between 'Fresh breeze' and 'light breeze', (max 8 m/s) The max gust I've measured today was 5.8 m/s at 09:47, classed as 'Moderate breeze'. No gale here (NB it will be a bit higher on the coast).

It all depends whether the Coptic is taking a direct route, or decides to go the scenic route and stop off at the odd tourist point along the way....

It's called "weather" - it does what it feels like when it feels like.

As you can see, I still don't believe in Coptics :|
