What papers for Road Transport ?.
Morning all,
Need some help.....
I've just bought a car privately and am wondering what paperwork do I need in order to transfer ownership.
Is is my responsibility? Does the vendor supply the paperwork?
Do I need forms from ( the dreaded) Road Transport.?
Normally I'd expect the dealer to attend to this- but I'm on me Tod!! I shall be doing this without the aid of a safety net
Any help / info appreciated

We went to citizens centre. Both us and the buyer. Took log book and insurance and Mot. I believe they supplied the forms that we both signed. The buyer left with new documentation. That was it I think. Quite a while ago but they will advise you, or road transport offices, whichever is nearer for you.

I agree with darrow. Buyer and seller plus registration document and insurance and MOT plus your Yellow Slip and get it done at the Citizen's Service Centre for €8.50. It really is that simple.
You must take the yellow slip as they use the number from it on the new registration document.

Spot on Band.
Car needs to be insured by new owner before transaction logged.

No idea of your personal circumstances but, if you are one half of a couple, you might consider getting the car registered in Joint Names which they will do in the Citizen's Advice Centre. We did that about 9 months ago, having read about the advisability of doing so in a post on this forum and, if I remember correctly, it only cost about €10.
Re: What papers for Road Transport ?.
Yes we did that 12 months ago. The reason is because if it is only in one name and the owner dies it cannot legally be used by the survivor, because it is part of the deceased's estate until Probate is sorted out.
The insurance also has to be in Joint names..

A really useful post on two fronts thanks, Trev. Hopefully, many couples in Cyprus will reconsider their current motor registration and insurance, and apply your good advice at next renewal!trevnhil wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 4:59 pm Yes we did that 12 months ago. Gone but not forgotten...
Re: What papers for Road Transport ?.
As Trev has said, Ian, it is essential you insure and register your car/cars in joint names, probate being a possible problem.
Hope you are well Ian...and the boss!
