It is indeed a beautiful cabinet, however the top has some scarring and there are a couple of chips in the door frame at the front. If it was a lighter wood colour it could have been just about livable but furniture restorers, we are not....
So yes, a paint job will be in order. I have a green and gold thought but it's finding the right match.

It was reduced from £50 to £25 as the lady needed a space in the shop. I think we let lucky with it 😊

On the back is a small disc with a logo from Swadlincote but I can't find any information about it. I'm beginning to wonder if it relates to the gold fabric which has been used to line the back of the cabinet.

I couldn't post it earlier as I was on my mobile phone but this is the disc I referred to in my reply this morning. It's affixed to the back of the cabinet:

Does it mean anything to anyone?

There is a Belfield Furnishings Limited in Ilkeston, Derbyshire which is not far from Swadlincote.

Jules, my dear Mum used to have a Glass Cabinet like your new find, parked to the left of her 6ft sideboard, both in dark oak or mahogony. (Then to the right of those two, was her industrial Singer sewing machine)..

The Glass Cabinet was her pride and joy, with all her glasses and collected chinaware arranged on the glass shelves inside. Mum asked me if I could add a hidden downlighter at the top rear, out of sight.

No problem! A little 12" long 5W florescent tube unit from B&Q fixed with two little screws. The power cable out through a drilled hole at the top rear, fed down to a 3A fused plug into a switchable mains socket. Voilá! Looks stunning when illuminated!

Cheers- AL :)

Thanks! Will check the link out later when I'm at my laptop....

Smudger, yep - we sussed when we first saw this one in the shop it would be very simple to fix the LED lighting strips inside the top, especially as this has glass shelves it's a perfect solution.

The cabinet is currently living in the side yard until the right moment comes along.... Or that Eureka nudge. We're expecting the workmen midweek to come to lay the drainage, flags, sleepers and move the summer house. Then the Keter shed will come down and hubby can have great fun choosing and erecting a new one.

Meanwhile, my conservatory is full of "stuff" - again! But this time, I can still watch the birdies on the tree fighting over the various feeding stations. Small mercies and all that....
