Proud of Paphos

Post by Mark »

Just said farewell to UK guests.

They loved Paphos, not in any particular order

. The road network, highways etc (better than UK)
. The quality and cost of food
.The friendliness.
. The weather.
. The old town
. Tomb of the Kings road upgrading
. The feeling of quality
. The opera
. The culture
. General cleanliness
. The villages
. The relaxed atmosphere

And many other reasons.

To see ourselves as others see us!!

I would add:

Paphos Forest
Akamas
All the bits in between.

The sea
The ease of living here
The low crime rate
The friends we have made
The time we have - not having to work
The activities that you can do
The above is my additions to what has already been mentioned. Love living here!
Happy to be back on the Island!

Hmmm!
Paphos (and Cyprus in general) is a bit like Marmite - you either love it or hate it.
I used to love Marmite!

I wouldn't describe Paphos Airport as fabulous! Though we had a new airport fairly recently, (I was one of a band of then residents in Paphos area who were asked to test drive - as it were, the new airport before it opened). It was very impressive compared with the tatty old airport. But the problem is that it should have been much bigger. Also they promised they would make the tannoy system in the departure lounge work audibly. They never did, it is very hard to make out what is being said. If you travel anytime esp in summer it is often heaving, even with the use of the 'cattle pens'! The boarding procedure consists of bunching every one together to use 2 departure gates inside the airport. People who are on one flight get mixed up with those on another! Speedy boarders get mixed up with those who haven't paid for it. What a shambles... fabulous - not! Dee

Paphos Airport is good. As Lloyd points out it can be very very busy in the Summer but very very quiet in the Winter but that is life.
Do feel though that the turn off from the main road is pretty bad and the road to the airport should be better. A big sign off the main road to indicate the way to Paphos International Airport would be great and the road to the airport should have more lighting.

The turn off from the main road is terrible, especially as it is advertised as an 'International Airport'
Some good lighting at the T junction would help..

Agree with these comments. It always puzzles me when I enter or leave the airport turnoff that it is so non-descript and almost easily missable. Particularly in the dark.

Yes, having to use the motorway bridge as a reminder that I have gone too far gets a bit tiresome after a while. :)

- Think we can add excellent Paphos Life Forum to the list as well. Useful for holiday makers as well as permanent residents and frequent visitors.

I would defiantly question the general cleanliness, have you driven around the backstreets of Chloraka I live there and I am ashamed at the state it is in on every corner there is rubbish dumped, where is the pride.

The signage to and from the Airport to Paphos is diabolical. So small and hidden. Not a good start for holidaymakers. Apart from that I agree with all the great things in Paphos and beyond! xx love it al xx

Yes, agree with the comments just made about the road junction to Paphos Airport. It looks very nondescript with a few nondescript shops or buldings around the entrance road to the airport It is easy to miss especially at night or in bad weather. Large airport sign and better lighting both there and on the approach road to the airport as at night time parts of the road are in darkness.

Hopefully the completion of the dual carriageway to the airport can start soon, will make a huge difference.

Regarding comments re cleanliness, I still feel (and my visitors agree) that Paphos is still much cleaner than the UK, which is the comparison used.

I think the delay is environmental rather than structural Trev, the Green Party are still opposed to the completion.

Oh dear... It seems silly to have done so much of it and then have problems with the last bit.
