Christmas at hotel in Lanarca or Limassol

Post by kansas »

We live in the Paphos district.

Our usual Christmas venue has closed down. We are considering booking into a hotel for 3 days over Christmas in either the Limassol or Lanarca areas. We're not looking for discos or live performers necessarily, just nice accommodation + meals.

Would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

In the past a lot of the hotels simple closed down before Christmas unless they had enough bookings to make it viable to stay open, especially as it must be expensive to heat a whole hotel.
It may be worth checking with the hotels which you are interested in. There are probably several staying open in Limassol. We stayed at the Atlantica Miramare there which we liked, nice rooms, well furnished. All meals are buffet style which personally isn't my favourite, but the food was reasonable with plenty of choice. These hotels sell 'Christmas Packages' which are all inclusive.there was enterainment provided every night while the hotel was full.

Try Marathon Beach Hotel in Limassol. I once spent a two week single Christmas / New Year stay there, and really enjoyed it. Evening meals were properly served (not buffet) and rooms very cosy. Brekky was buffet, and very nice too.

My own personal choice for a fantastic half board Christmas stay would undoubtedly be the Aloe Hotel in Paphos, though. 4* but ticks 5* in my experiences... AL :)

The Aloe has been bought by The Thanos group and will be going through a major refurbishment in 2018 ........I wonder if the Almyra will become an Adult Only Hotel and they make the Aloe a family destination hotel.

The Londa hotel in Limmasol is very modern not too large......check the website re Christmas packages .......
Limmasol does appear lacking in tourists from November - March so I assume a large percentage of hotels close....

Would it be better maybe to say what year it was when you had (not Buffet) breakfasts, and properly served evening meals? And your Christmas stay at the Aloe Hotel..
Maybe things could have changed now it is 2017..

Try the Ajax Hotel in Limassol. We stayed there overnight for the Wine Festival this year. There's parking on site, indoor pool, gym, etc and the breakfast buffet is fantastic.

Personally, I would travel to Larnaca for a Christmas break. I think that it has more local atmosphere than Limassol.

Have you tried TripAdvisor for Christmas break deals?

If the Aloe has been bought by the same bunch of precocious snobs that transformed the very popular and family friendly Paphos Beach Hotel into the cold and clinical yuppie Almyra Hotel, then I don't think I'll be revisiting the Aloe Hotel again!

Another suggestion or two... Alexander the Great Hotel in Paphos. Or Columbia Hotel in Pissouri. Lots of Paphos expats used to book Christmas at the latter, and loved it!

Try both these suggestions on Tripadvisor to get insight. Cheers- AL :)

ps: I already thought Almyra was adult and yuppie since the day it reopened??

Al.......The Almyra is like a kindergarten in school hols full of precocious parents and super brats 😩.......out of Season Jan/Feb it's great hotel with retired people staying up to 6 weeks ........Mercury Direct have very good deals.....they have in previous seasons.
I agree not the Paphos Beach but the hotel has the best view and position in Paphos......

I stand corrected, Yioula. But WHERE did all those nice seaview balconies in everyone's rooms go?

Thanks- AL :)

They are now part of the room in the original hotel......the patio doors open wide.....but it's not the same as a balcony......in the newer section you can have a balcony but of course that's more ££££
I think they are now in the process of refurbishing some rooms
The sister Hotel The Annabelle is closed this winter for refurbishment......friends who stayed said that it was long overdue 😳
In the 80s before the extension it was a fabulous hotel......

If people would only state WHEN they last stayed at a place, or ate at a restaurant they recommend, it would make things on the forum a lot easier.
If recommendations are not for the current year then things may well have changed, since they last visited..

It is important,I think, to state roughly when you visited a place. A travel book from 10 years ago will not be as useful as a similar one printed a week ago. However, it will certainly be better than no travel book. And the old travel book may have places listed that are still there but that don't appear in the new travel book, because the new book hasn't been to all the places the old one has.

By saying a year though, the person reading the post will be able to factor that in. Everybody will then be happy, and peace will once more descend upon the valley.
