Passport control

Post by smudger »

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/201 ... rts-reform

This Labour MP is urging changes to passport control procedures due to the number of children who have different surnames on their passport to that of one of their parents. Why???

It's simplicity in itself, if your child has a different surname to you or your partner then why not simply take supporting evidence to show the relationships ?? Why does the whole passport control system need to change to accommodate these people! What is wrong with simply carrying supporting documentation rather than changing the whole passport control procedures??

My granddaughter has a different surname to me, from day one Ihave carried supporting documentation to demonstrate why this is so. What is it with Labour MPs that they use every opportunity to put themselves on the front pages???

For anyone here who may have to travel with a child having a different surname to you, then please, simply take documentation to evidence the relationship, simple!

With small children any parent should be pleased for the caution and sensible enough to have the necessary proof if asked. This happened to me once with my son from my first marriage but he was about 8 and the official just asked him who I was so that was fine. But I did have necessary documents just in case.

Jacs- what did you make of HMG advice in that Guardian article? To write both parent and/or guardian names into the Emergency Contacts section of the child's Passport?

In your case- this would be your daughter (Gyorgi's blood mother) and you, her blood grandmother, surely? But take the other docs with you, just in case of meeting another jobsworth...

It's all about preventing young kids from being smuggled abroad for whatever nefarious purpose. You understand that, deep down in that big heart of yours, don't you?

Cheers- AL xx

When travelling with our grandchildren under a different surname we use to have to carry a letter signed by one of the parents that we had their permission to travel with the children.

Al I don't have a problem at all, always carry the court documents, which are religiously requested every time we fly into the UK. Had a problem last time when - as she is now 12 - biometric passport didn't work, and my brain went on meltdown and couldn't remember Gs dob, full name...... and passport officer didn't want to see the court docs. Nightmare. The high court docs are fortunately very specifi and beyond reproach. Will not be using biometric passport again!!

It interests me that you say ' We will not be using biometric passport again'. What choice do you have, surely you only have the one passport.

Sorry, incorrect grammar, meant we will go through the other gate rather than epassport gate just in case.

Just won't risk it again, granddaughter was panic stricken, especially when she couldn't see me and I could not go back to her!
