Chloraka Square to be revamped
Chloraka Square to be revamped
It looks like they are going to pedestranise the road through Chloraka village, work starts in two weeks and will last....9 MONTHS!(Cyprus Mail)
Re: Chloraka Square to be revamped
Cholraka has improved lots over the last few years. Bar St is still a shithole and needs to be developed in to a family friendly area to attract more families. Paphos is a lovely place, but if you are a first time visitor and walk down bar st you think what a crap place this is. Take the name away for a start.
Re: Chloraka Square to be revamped
Bar Street is only a nickname, Stelios. It's actually Agios Antoniyou St (I think). And it did get a major pedestrianization makeover about 10 years ago, which made an amazing diifference to before.
Old folks falling off 12" high kerbs and breaking legs, arms, hips, ribs... Endless streams of cars and noisy motorbikes flowing past, pumping out CO fumes.. Main problem with most of these bars (which were originally built as shop units with flats above by a well known Paphos developer) is the noise level, both in the old days and now, sadly.
Cheers- AL

Re: Chloraka Square to be revamped
Sounds like a similar job and timescale to the revamp our square in Tala, it was a bit of a pain when the work was going on, but I think that the finished job is well worth it, a couple of businesses have opened or reopened, it is safe to walk in the square, and the fountains a lovely in the evening, we have phase two ( the roads around the square) coming soon!
Hope the Chloraka revamp is as good a job, if so it will be worth it.

Tala looks nice, but I think that its turned into a white elephant, its like a ghost town, hardly any places open.
Hope Chloraka turns out better

All this means is that traffic will be diverted through the even smaller residential streets around the area of the Big Church in Chloraka. All for upgrading the area in general but pedestrianising part of a busy major through road seems extreme.

I don't understand why the photo in the CM article shows an image of Sharon Small on a bicycle....LouiseCastricum wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 12:11 pmMaybe, just wait and see. Also read the full article.

Re: Chloraka Square to be revamped
I don't think pedestrianisation is part of the project. I think the road will be more defined (e.g. bollards) and block paving will be the surface.
Re: Chloraka Square to be revamped
Looking at the artist's impressions, josef, it doesn't look like there will be much room for two way traffic through that new pedestrian area. Probably automatic barriers at each end, to allow cop cars, fire engines and ambulances in and out.
Note that phase two is to improve the through road past this area. Let's hope that this makeover attracts a few bars, shops and tavernas to the centre, to create a day and night time buzz!

Re: Chloraka Square to be revamped
Thanks for the link to the article LouiseCastricum - I was under the impression that the area would be pedestrianised having read an earlier comment and that Tala Square is now a pedestrianised area. From the artist's impression it looks more like the area along Kato Paphos seafront. Also the road is very narrow going past the little old church so it will be interesting to see what does happen.
