Naughty, I know, but always ask them if they'd like a cash deal off their books... Saves them tax, and you vat. I've had full house double glazing done this way, and still got my FENSA guarantee. Then a complete new roof for my detached garage, with 18mm smartply and one piece Firestone rubber covering, side trims etc, still with my 30 year guarantee.
It always pays you to at least ask, as it can save you both shedloads of wonga (meaning you and the contractor). Don't get pious and high and mighty with me here please! But WHY should gov collect a 20% rake off on a job they took no part in whatsoever?
