Normally works fine. The one time it didn't I went in the bank and somebody was filling it.

Since a large number of Nicosians have decided to take their August holidays in the area, my guess is that the machine gets exhausted very quickly, especially over the weekend!

Re: ATM bank of Cyprus in polemi
I've had problems with the Polemi ATM. They've reduced the amount you can withdraw in one day from €800 to €200 (although I believe this is BOC policy), and twice last week it wouldn't accept my card.
Re: ATM bank of Cyprus in polemi
You can withdraw more than €200 in a single go from there. I usually take out €280, to avoid getting too many €50 notes.
That irritates me about all cashpoints in Cyprus. They like to give you €50s wherever possible. I would much rather €10s and €20s.

So what's the standpoint with €100 notes locally, in shops and restaurants, I wonder? Are these treated as suspicious and potential fakes, like £20 and £50 notes are here, in UK outlets?

Had the same with the BoC branch going up the Polis road, tried to withdraw 300 euros & it said "you have exceeded the number of transactions for your card"! Bizarre, so went in & the cashier rolled her eyes & said that the withdrawal limit is now 200 euros, & they didn't have another error message to put on the screen!Fisherman Phil wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 7:43 pm I've had problems with the Polemi ATM. Since you saw a Cashier I guess it must have been on a weekday and yet my OH took € 400 out of the ATM in Coral Bay on Saturday. Dominic , in 10 years of using machines and asking for € 300 I have always been delivered 4 x € 50 and 5 x €20 never all € 50sApusApus wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 8:26 pmHad the same with the BoC branch going up the Polis road, tried to withdraw 300 euros & it said "you have exceeded the number of transactions for your card"! As far as I know using a BoC ATM you can get over € 200 if you use a BoC card. If you have a card from another bank you can get € 200 only.

No, have checked with my branch.LouiseCastricum wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2017 12:26 pm As far as I know using a BoC ATM you can get over € 200 if you use a BoC card. If you have a card from another bank you can get € 200 only.
Even with a BoC card in BoC ATNM, you can only withdraw €200.
Apparently, it's for security reasons which they hope will be lifted shortly.

I went inside the Polemi BOC bank this morning because I wanted more than 200. I must have been there at least 20 minutes

Re: ATM bank of Cyprus in polemi
i always draw €400, 5x20 notes and the rest in €50's. i did have some €200 once ,but every shop i went in wanted a supervisor to O.K. them as well as checking them in the note machine. too much hassle!
Re: ATM bank of Cyprus in polemi
I was in Lidl's one day, Polis Rd, when a Russian Lady slightly ahead of me in the queue, tendered €500 note to the cashier! This caused much consternation and discussion between 2 cashiers! Eventually the supervisor appeared and after scratching her head located a machine which verified the note was OK! It was probably one of a small number of places which could produce the change required!

I know the €100 note came out as the highest denomination monetary note with the advent of the €urozone. And was very quickly siezed upon by fakers and criminals (money-laundering).
Cannot believe that Brussels has made these problems potentially worse, by introducing €200 and €500 notes! Absolute madness!
After donkey's years here in UK, the £50 note is still our highest denomination note, and is still treated with extreme suspicion in most retail outlets. £20 notes are invariably checked very carefully, too...
Maximum we can grab out of an ATM here is £250 - that hasn't changed for years, either!

We saw a Chinese lady crack open a €500 note in the supermarket opposite Costa's Tyres. The cashier didn't bat an eyelid. I did!Kili01 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2017 6:19 pm I was in Lidl's one day, Polis Rd, when a Russian Lady slightly ahead of me in the queue, tendered €500 note to the cashier!
