Trump and THAT demonstration

Trump and THAT demonstration

Post by Dominic »

My politics are fairly centre ground, I am neither extreme left wing or extreme right wing. Consequently I am uneasy with just about ALL media outlets, because these days, the so-called "liberal" press is more left with than The Daily Mirror.

So I have been watching the reporting of Trump's so-called meltdown with bewilderment. I actually sat through the entire interview, which is rare for me. Now, I find Trump's style incredibly irritating, but his basic point, that there were trouble makers on all sides, is just a fact. The left can be just as violent as the right.

Years ago, as a student, I went to an Anti Fascist Demonstration at Hyde Park. We were trying to stop a Screwdrivers gig from happening. Screwdrivers were a far right punk band. The skinheads coming to see the band were supposed to meet at Hyde Park Corner at 3PM or something. The Anti Fascists turned up an hour before, and basically picked off the skinheads as they arrived in dribs and drabs.

I was appalled. What was originally a friendly protest quickly turned violent. Only a minority of the Anti-Fascists were violent, most were trying to control the violent ones. But it was just complete hypocrisy.

It is obvious looking at the clips, that some on the left had come spoiling for a fight as well. They should be stamped down on as much as the cretins on the right.

But the reporting of Trump's response really makes my skin crawl. I don't like the man at all, but the media should criticise him when he screws up.They shouldn't try and manufacture stories to suit their agenda. Otherwise, onlookers will distrust their output, and when they come to report real foul ups, rather than the manufactured ones, people will be far less likely to believe them.

I'm afraid that horse has not only already bolted, but disappeared over the horizon, died of old age, and is currently holding up some nice wallpaper in a charming lounge in Cheam

You are correct, that there is an alt-right and an alt-left movement in the US.

Both were violent in Charlottsville. On that Trump is correct. However, he consistently refuses to totally condemn fascists, naziz, bigots, racists and the like. The KKK can still recruit and march. Trump has alr-right people in his administration in powerful positions and their aim is to turn the Republican Party alt-right. W Bush’s top advisor was on 5 live yesterday in a debate and his talk was enlightening. A right-wing politician claiming America is being infiltrated by hard right, similar to the effect in Germany in 1930. He really did say it was that serious. The alt-left is needed by them, as people need a hate group, like the Nazis did with the Jews.

Now, personally, I never dreamt things were so bad, but it made hard listening. If Trump doesn’t eradicate these people from his group, he is in effect part of it. He was backed by the KKK for goodness sake and won’t condemn them.
