Police arrest camping site stabbing suspect
A 22-year-old Nicosia resident was arrested on Tuesday night in connection with the attempted murder of a man at the Polis Chrysochous camping site in the Paphos area on August 14.
He was remanded in custody for seven days on Wednesday.
A 36-year-old man from Larnaca, who was staying at the camping site, was taken to the local hospital early Monday with a serious stab wound after a fight.
The man was transferred to Paphos hospital at around 1 am where he was treated for a deep tissue injury to the left shoulder blade.
His condition is not considered life threatening but he was still in hospital on Wednesday morning. Police said they are investigating the circumstances of how he was injured.
According to reports, the man was stabbed in the shoulder during a brawl between his friends – all from Larnaca – and another group of men from Nicosia, after one of the two groups blasted loud music at the campsite.
During the fracas, the Nicosia man allegedly injured the 36-year-old with a knife.
The suspect who was arrested in Limassol and taken to Paphos for questioning is expected to appear in court later on Wednesday.
