Not much fun for those who live halfway up (or down, depending which way you look at it) those mountain roads though. There's no escape! Just get the BBQ out and stick the souvla on. If you can't beat 'em - join 'em

Good idea, I was very nearly hit by a tourist whilst on zebra crossing at Philippos Coral Bay. Tourist driver decided to keep going whilst I was halfway across.

the world and his wife are heading to the forests or the beach and my friend has just been involved in an accident near Tsada to which the insurance assessors are struggling to get to due to the sheer volume of traffic!! They've managed to pull into the side a bit purely to helps people get past but it's still causing huge problems!

She was stationary in a stream as it was nose to tail all the way when the inevitable happened and the pick up truck behind her didn't stop....how many times have we seen this happen?!!

I hope your friend is ok, not a nice thing to happen.

The cause of the traffic congestion on the Polis road was due to the traffic lights at Trimathousa.
I queued from just below Sports Direct right up to the traffic lights, after the lights there was no problem at all.
They should have put a mini roundabout there, instead of lights.

Here in UK, local councils seem to have a fetish for installing traffic lights ON existing (and new) roundabouts! Total and utter incomprehensible madness!

Today, i drove from Cheltenham to Burford and back via Cirencester.Beautiful sunny weather, good roads, and although its the summer holidays season here too, the roads were relatively quiet. This is really a beautiful part of UK... even the general standard of driving is pretty good. I didn't miss Aug 15th in Paphos! Thiugh if I was at home in Kili I would probably have stayed at home today!

Sorry about your friend Vicky. Very annoying for her.

Fisherman Phil I'm puzzled why there should be a problem at Tremithousa lights, given the minuscule time we from Tremi and those from Mesogi have to get out! It's lucky if four cars get out of the villages onto the main road before the lights change again - aside from the 14 who then go through on red of course - so I can't see any real holdup there!

Seriously, there is a huge amount of time for the main road traffic to get through before the lights change to the villages.

I agree with Jac's the time we get to get from Trimithousa is minimal. When the traffic lights are green to go down the Messogi Rd we get only seconds to get onto the road. Something needs to change.

Yes, I also agree that the green light time allowed for cars from Tremi or Mesogi directions to join the Polis Rd is very short. Some mornings the tail back of traffic from the Tremi side of the road waiting to get out is so long that only a few cars can make it on the green light plus possibly a couple more as the lights are changing amber to red.
Looking at the Polis Rd, the vehicles there have plenty of time usually for any queue of traffic waiting at the lights to get away.
When traffic on the hill is very heavy or stationary it tends to indicate that the road above is blocked by accident or breakdown.

We came down the road from Tsada while the accident and about 5 other cars were parked up at the side of the road, but not really causing a hold-up.

There were police at the Tremithousa junction, overriding the lights and sending all the traffic up the hill to clear the backlog.
