MP3 Players suitable for swimming

Post by Dominic »

Does anybody know where I can get an underwater MP3 player? I had some but have mislaid them, and I feel I need to be doing more swimming.

Most can't, before you take yours for a dip. You can buy waterproof ones though.

HI Mouse
If you suffer with noise pollution why do you have live music in your restaurant with houses all round the restaurant?I think it,s the people who live in these houses who perhaps suffer with "noise pollution" as you put it!

Excellent post thanks, tonee! Are we possibly looking at a case of hypocritism here, perhaps?

Don't do as as I do, but do as I say? Your turn in the witness box, Mouse...

I have a feeling that this thread may well end in the pit but it is going to be a fun ride.

The thing is the Paradise restaurant is small and the music is often too loud to enjoy a meal. just saying.

I would certainly agree with that point, Lincoln. When your'e out for a nice evening meal with friends and/or family, you want a nice chat and conversation with each other.

Fair enough, some nice background muzak played at lowish volumes often adds to the atmosphere of the restaurant, I agree.. But when LOUD music is played like that, in a small restaurant, and whoever is in charge refuses to lower the volume (when asked politely), because he happens to like such music and visualizes himself as a DJ in a Disco, and doesn't give a shite about the ambience in the restaurant, well...

That's the time to spend two minutes browsing the menu, then get up and say "Thanks, but no thanks- Music too loud" and walk out. It's easy enough to find a nearby taverna with owners more appreciative of their customer's comforts and needs (and ongoing recommendations) surely?

Cheers- AL :)

True, but then the convo swerved, from someone complaining about a loud whining noise from the A/C on a nearby hotel, that runs 24/7 for 6 months close to his apartment (I guess?)

Someone else then commented that this complainent runs a small restaurant with apartments surrounding, who plays loud music in there. I commented that I would not want to eat in such a place, especially if I had friends and/or family with me, so we cannot hold a conversation!

Cannot see any issue with this thread so far, apart from a bit of audacious hypocrisy, to warrant it going into the Pit yet, tbh...

We have been there numerous times and if you sit right next to the singer and the speakers maybe it is too loud for some.
I wonder how many have actually approached the owner and asked if the volume could be turned down a little.
Who has said that the owner has Refused to turn down the volume..

During Sunday lunchtimes a singer with music is usually present. We have been many times and had to book early to make sure of a place.. We have certainly been able to have a conversation, and the entertainment is so good that after lunch people stay until the music stops at around 4-00pm..

Mouse- just go down to the hotel and study where the source of the A/C noise is. Ground level? Turn off the mains switch adjacent to it, then walk away, whistling...

On the roof? Ask to see the Manager and discuss the issue with him on friendly terms, based on local noise pollution laws. If necessary, get the local Mucktar involved too. Large A/C units like these in hotels that have become whiny and noisy is usually a sign that they are not being properly maintained and serviced regularly. Penny pinching, in other words...

It's probably costing the silly sods more to run them on their leccy bills, fcs!

Mouse and Helen at the Paradise restaurant are a lovely couple. They work hard and I often go for a bite to eat. However I soon leave if music comes on. A great place for a meal or a drink Just saying, as we are fond of both of them and in no way wish to run down there business. it is doing well.

I got a waterproof MP3 player from Amazon in the end. It is strictly OK. It would probably work better if I also wore a snorkel and mask, as you have to strap it on to something and I don't normally wear goggles. Plus the sound is a lot better when your head is fully submerged.

I wouldn't recommend doing non-swimming exercise in a snorkel and mask though. People would talk.
