Where to buy a blackboard.?

Post by trevnhil »

Does anyone know where we can buy a 'blackboard' for writing on with chalk. We only need a medium sized one and wondered if Jumbo might sell them.

I think that you have to call them Chalkboards in these PC times, but maybe not in Cyprus

Just ask for a black chalkboard then Trev I'm sure you'll get one in Jumbo. Have seen them in the old Carrefour as well.

You could have a go at making one yourself, Trev. It's only a sturdy piece of smooth plywood, whatever dimensions you need. Lightly sand the smooth surface with fine sandpaper, then give it a couple of coats of Matt Black aerosol paint from your favourite DIY store.

Voilá! One blackboard! Since black is a recognized primary colour in the dictionary, there are NO racial conotations to be frowned on by the PC brigade...

Caveat! Spray paints contain harmful toxins, so do the painting outside, shaking the can regularly, wearing a mask please! Allow a couple of hours between first and second coats, and then a day indoors to totally dry before you start chalking...

Cheers- AL ;)

You can buy blackboards on Amazon in the UK.

The blackboard paint was the problem at €14-74 a tin. No black aerosol available. I bet a ready made one from Jumbo will be the cheapest option..

You are almost certainly 100% correct, Trev. Here in UK, quality 500ml cans of matt black spray work out at around a fiver on fleaBay, inc free P&P!

I wonder why similar is sooooooo much more expensive over there in Cyprus? Good luck with a ready-made blackboard from Jumbo! Can I be really nosey, and ask what you need it for, m8? As there may another, more modern, presentation solution available in Paphos? An easel, with white fold over sheets, that you write on with a special (wipe-off) black marker, that all in the room can see and read?

Or have you treated yourself to a dartboard at home?

Cheers- AL :)

Mrs Trev wants it inside a full height pantry door, presumably to write on things that can't be seen... ???? But that is only a guess :-)

Ahhh! Perhaps a small sheet of glossy white vinyl, with a wipe-off coloured marker pen, then? ;)

You mean formerly known as Carrefour? Can never remember the new shop's name either.

This is a cunning woman's secret plan for things to buy on the next supermarket expedition, is it not?

Jeez, an ongoing reminder list on a small sheet of notepaper (under my crossword newspaper) serves the same purpose for me. I wouldn't want to be pushing a trolley around Tesco AND be carrying a 2' x 4' blackboard shopping list with me as well...

Or maybe I have slightly the wrong take on this?
