This is beginning to remind of Alice, in the Wheatsheaf...

Singer: " and I'll never forget about living next door to Alice..)

Audience: " Alice? Who the fook is Alice?" (In the same rhythm of course)

Someone correct me if I minced the words, pls. I too hope Rita is fine...

Cheers- AL :D

Poppy, Firefly and Louise

Thank you all for your concern and to just let you know I am o.k. My apologies for not replying sooner I am in the UK at present as my brother, who suffers with Alzheimers, is now in a care home but unfortunately is rapidly declining and unfortunately will not be returning to his home. Consequently I am presently dealing with the sale of his house and all that entails so have had quite a lot on my plate so to speak.
Anyone who has had or is dealing with anyone with this wicked complaint will appreciate how my mind is everywhere else at this time particularly so as my brother does not even recognise me these days or anyone else save for one cousin who visits to play dominos with him.

I have been looking in to the forum fairly frequently and on a couple of occasions wished to comment on a post or two but by the time I got around to doing so others had already said what I was going to say so there seemed little point in repeating the same message. I thus left it to you Poppy, Firefly, Royal. Hudswell and Pete G - not forgetting Devil whose recollection of history re the Prime Minister when the second world war was declared (Mr Chamberlin not Winston Churchill as Geoffreys believed) was the same as mine - I was born in 1932 and due to commence junior school a few days after the announcement.

I am now in London (where I usually stay when in the UK) for a few days and went to the World Athletics on Saturday and Sunday having been lucky enough to get tickets earlier so did not wish to miss them and I have to say I did enjoy myself these last two days. Glad to see Bolt on his last appearance but so sorry he did not win but he has given so much to his craft - great man in my opinion.

Thank you all once more and if Jim is reading this I have sent you a PM in response to your message. Sorry Firefly I did not respond earlier to yours but here it is now. Take care everyone.

Really good to hear from you Rita, albeit, wish the curcumstances were different, bloody old age, it's a pain.

Envy you seeing the athletics, so so sorry Bolt didn't win, but he's done so much for his sport he'll always be a legend.

Really hope you get everything sorted soon, look in when you can, your voice and opinions always more than welcome.

Thoughts are with you

Rita- dare I ask a question, in the very difficult situation you find yourself in at present, in terms of helping your brother sort his affairs out, please?

Do you have the original (and quite proper) Power of Attorney to deal with your brother's affairs? Or the new version that HMG introduced a while back, (2007, if memory serves me correctly)? Whereby to pay a £50 bill of his, you have to go to Court, ending up (disgracefully) costing hundreds if not thousands of pounds in legal costs?

Hope you are well, not too stressed with it all (like waiting in HMG telephone queues for half an hour or more) and that you get it all sorted soon.

Ahh! Just thought of another vital question!!! Is this house in your brother's SOLE name, or is half of it owned by someone else? ie: Tenants in Common... If sole name, then the council will want to grab the sale proceeds to pay for his ongoing care home costs.

If 50/50 Tenants in Common, that makes it a bit tricky for the council. Since you cannot realistically sell half a house! This is why my darling wife (RIP) and me went to Land Registry back in 2007 (having paid our mortgage off in 2004) and for FREE, changed ownership on our freehold house from JOINT to TENANTS IN COMMON.

Now my wife has sadly passed away a month ago, I don't own all the house, as would be usual were it in joint names. Our daughter owns the other half, with wifey's willed proviso that I may stay here as long as I wish, of course...

What am I doing up at 2am (4am your time)? Night night, good people! AL :)

Rita

I was just thinking about you this morning, so good to hear you're well. Sorry about your brother, it's a cruel illness, and it robs the sufferer of their personality and their dignity, I know from personal experience, not good.

I wasn't happy about Bolt coming third, especially as the first place was given to a drugs cheat !

Hope you're soon back in sunny Cyprus, the weather here in the UK is awful at present.

All best wishes,

Jackie x
