I can't find the link. It seems incredible the way this ambulance service can change almost like a chameleon, one minute its independant, then its with Evangelismos. Then we hear that they have fallen out of bed (so to speak) with that hospital and now have somehow relocated to St Georges/Blue Cross. So what's next. Who has the ambulances and where are the paramedics? All rather puzzling don't you think?
And where is John Thomson (the real one)?

From what I can make out of this thread (and previous)...

The ambulances might have all been taken off the road for much needed servicing, MOT, maintenance etc...

As to onboard Paramedics, did they ever have these? JT has replied to previous threads on this subject. Be patient, as I'm certain that he'll reply again, positively...

@JT: I was so sad to learn that your dear wife passed on. Can emphasise with you..

There is absolutely no way I would be a member of this organisation (Phoenix Ambulance).

My late husband and I were members of John's original Houston Medical ambulance service.
In those days he did employ paramedics and very good they were too. They were wonderful in the way that they looked after my husband when he was so ill. Even taking and fetching him from the Oncology Centre in Nicosia as well as to Evangelismos and the hospice when needed. It was and no doubt still is excellant when John is running it. The problem is that it must be difficult to make ends meet financially, especially when they expanded the service to include extra ambulances.
So, I suppose led to him making what turned out to be dangerous alliances with locally run businessmen and their businesses. I wonder how good the business contracts actually were, or maybe failure was due to the other party not sticking to the terms that had been agreed in the contract? Who knows?
I hope that Phoenix like John can once again rise from the ashes? I really hope so as his service is still badly needed here.

We too like Dee have been Members of John's Ambulance service for many many year since it was Houston Ambulance service.
We have seen a few changes, but they have always been good in our eyes.
We have used them in emergencies (Blues & Twos) to get a patient to the Hospital.. We have also used them for trips to the Paphos General, and to Nicosia when ambulance transport was needed.
I am trying to keep up with all that is going on, but it is sometimes difficult.
At the moment we would seem to be covered by at least 2 ambulance companies.
The Evangelismos one, because they say they will honour contracts with people until they expire.
And John has said that he too will transport those that are on the old members list..

The two difficult decisions are.... Which one do we use in a real Emergency.. And when renewal time comes, who do we go with ?? Fortunately in one respect we have a number of months before our renewal date, and so we can see how things progress .

Am I the only one who is getting just a little bored regarding the never-ending debates about Houston/Phoenix/Whoever.

Perhaps I am.

If any of the companies involved want a decent website, with which they can keep customers informed and attract new customers, then get in touch. Clearly their existing solutions aren't working, and The Paphos Life Team will be more than happy to help, for a reasonable fee. :)

No, I am with you on this. There are two sides in this and neither is willing to let the facts get in the way of their side. If everybody read what has been posted and authenticated all the " tit for tat " would be unnecessary people do not want to hear a fact or opinion with which they do not agree. When I was brought up, a long time ago, I was taught to listen to all sides before forming an opinion but now it is all knee jerk reaction
This is not cofined to fora look at Facebook or Twitter, I am on neither nor ever will be.

Crikey Aargent, I've walked through Theletra on many occasions. Are you the only person living there, or do you have a few friendly and helpful neighbours there? If you have an accident at home, what is your cunning master plan for getting to Hospital quickly, I wonder?

@josef k: If you find a particular thread 'boring' for whatever reason, remember that nobody is forcing you to read it. Your choice on which buttons to click, surely?

I have read all posts I thing on both Forums. I have even been down to Evangelismos and asked a number of questions... They were all answered reasonably well, and hopefully truthfully...
The questions about paramedics were answered with the reply that there is no such qualification in Cyprus.. This is one of the main points for us, ie how much 'Life Saving' can the crews do..
The other main question as to whether they have the GPS of our house was answered in the positive ie we have the data that was with Phoenix...

But these are the answers that I would expect to be given... Now I just have to decide what and who to believe, and rely upon, maybe for our lives !!!

Theletra and Neo Theletra will both be the subject of blogs in the near future too. Theletra appears to be making a bit of a comeback. It isn't as abandoned as we first thought...

Look forward to the Theletra blog, Dominic. Earthquake, old village evacuated, new village built on safer ground, but still signs of local residency in the old village that clings to the hillside.

Reminiscent of Choletria (opposite side of Xeros Potamos valley from Nata), and similar circumstances, with folk still living in the old abandoned village...

Cheers- AL :)

From my personal experience , as a paid up member of the Phoenix service I have had no contact from the company...As for Evangelismos , they have sent a couple of emails...telephoned a couple of times and been to the house to record the GPS readings. They also confirmed that my membership would be honoured until it expires in December. Another important point was they will take you to any hospital you request , not just the Evangelismos. So far so good...but of course the big test is to come.
