Re: Photovoltaics are the way to go.. Article CMail 30.8.17
Are there any projects in Cyprus like commercial PV facilities or windfarms which a private investor could invest in?

It is hot here with 31c in the shade and no clouds. But my system is still recording that is is making 2.475 kw per hour and has made 7 kw this morning up to 11-15am > I would not call this a significant drop from it's actual maximum output..
We have a 3kw system but in reality I have not seen it producing 3kw. I have seen a reading of 2.75kw.
I believe you can pay more and have a 5kw system

The topic was about PV contra to wind power. Why do you think that anybody wants to invest in a wind park when it is proved that it is not economical.?

We don't have the wind in Cyprus necessary all year long and also large properties are rare. The wind park at Kouklia was built on land which came from the Government...

Owner of the company is our Paphos Deputy Mayor which normally should know what is going on, concerning large business in the area.

It is a new idea of boosting efficiency, but still in the developing phase. As mentioned in the article they need testing it now which can take some more years to come. There are two things I don't like. First: the lenses are moving, controlled by sensor, to optimize the result. Everything moving is always prone for problems (dirt, heat, wind...) that's why fixed solar panels are so reliable in the long run.
Second: The optical lenses are made from plastic and nobody knows how they will perform after years in hot sunny environment. Sure they will NOT concentrate on one point if there is dust on them or they change colour and getting milky as many plastics do with sun and heat. We are not talking of a couple of years but 30-40 years performance like the traditional panels can cope with.

I've just had a 3kw (with optimiser) system fitted by Andi Solartech. I'm now waiting for the EAC visit so Andreas can link it up. I wanted to add a separate solar pump & panels for my pool (hence my earlier question regarding 'planning permission') to a pergola roof but feel it probably isn't worth the hassle.....

You sure you need planning permission? I have the panels for pool pump, great result....
Re: Photovoltaics are the way to go.. Article CMail 30.8.17
Could you perhaps post a photo of your solar pool pump PV panels installation please, Dave?
It might help Peter (and others) find an easier and less expensive way forward...
Thanks- AL

Because it might still generate a profit if you buy at the right price? Where I´m from (Bavaria) there is even less wind and windmills are still profitable at the level of the individual investor (not sure about the macroeconomic level). I´m simply interested whether the same can be said for Cyprus as I have some funds to invest (PV would also be ok though).cyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 11:36 am Jeba

Hang on, the person was asking who he could invest with. Max made a statement which was factually correct. The owner of Green Air is the Deputy Mayor, so he WOULD be a good person to ask, wouldn't he? Can you name a better person to ask?Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2017 12:52 amcyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 11:36 amFor PV I would ask Green Air company https://www.paphoslife.com/directory/category/energy Owner of the company is our Paphos Deputy Mayor which normally should know what is going on, concerning large business in the area. I do think it important Max that you declare your interest here. You are, or were, very closely connected to Green Air and I believe derived an income from the company in a sales/consultancy capacity...so any recommendations you make regarding Green Air should take that into account. Your knowledge of RES is not in question, but your recommendations regarding Green Air are hardly impartial.

He did used to work for Green Air. He retired some time ago though. He isn't on a wage. He knows their product range, and is passionate about solar panels. How is it any different from somebody who has had solar panels fitted by A.N.Other company recommending that company, because they know their product?

No axe whatsover to grind with you here, honestly, Lloyd. May I ask how YOU typically reply on PL to members enquiring about Pool safety fences, covers, relining, anti-slip etc etc??Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2017 12:52 amcyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 11:36 amFor PV I would ask Green Air company https://www.paphoslife.com/directory/category/energy Owner of the company is our Paphos Deputy Mayor which normally should know what is going on, concerning large business in the area. I can only speak of my personal experience. A couple of months ago, I contacted HIC for some general advice on replacing our pool liner, and repair/replacement of the powder-coated metal pool surrounding. Lloyd kindly responded promptly, with lots of advice on choosing the best materials, and what pitfalls to avoid. A few emails were exchanged, and while we received a quote, there was absolutely no pressure whatsoever to accept. Just advice, freely given, and very much appreciated. Thank you Lloyd. Even though we've gone with someone on the eastern side of the island (where our house is), I'd have no hesitation in recommending your company- you really know your stuff! The guy who we've contracted to replace our liner, is also now our new pool cleaner, so it's in his interest to do a good job.PaphosAL wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2017 9:09 pmNo axe whatsover to grind with you here, honestly, Lloyd. PS I have no connection with HIC's company, or Max's. The only company I am connected with is M&S

Max has no company ties, wages, or income derived therefrom. But he does know the best RES direct source in sunny Cyprus, with no middlemen, thanks to his previous experience, and more importantly, his amassed knowledge...
It's a bit like me, actually. Going over to Paphos for a few years running, when I didn't need a hire car, coz the old truck was included in my rental. That didn't stop me still popping in to George and Kula:
http://www.easyrentacarltd.com/web/
I would still help George ferry cars to and from PFO, and sometimes collect cars from the posher areas further out, and stop for a bite to eat and a soft drink on the way back by Timi..
Since 1994, no matter which site, I've only ever recommended this one site, as nobody else comes anywhere as near as close on overall price, service, friendliness, email and phone response, insurance cover, etc etc
I'm not connected with this business in any way shape or form, nor am I on commission! It's all about sharing the knowledge in Paphos, I think...

What position is there to declare, that he used to work for them? Should he add something like:
________
Disclaimer: I used to work for Green Air, however, I am not receiving any payment for recommending their services.
________
Clearly, he is passionate about solar power etc, and clearly, he thinks Green Air are a good company. The only link to Green Air he posted on this page was to an information page about Pool Pumps. This was in direct response to Al's request for information about pool pumps.

If you google "solar pool pumps paphos", the same link is the top search result. Well, it is on mine. Also, the link is just about the only one I can see that contains any information on the subject, other than pictures of pumps.cyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 6:39 pmAlan, plenty infos from this website: http://www.greenair-cy.com/our-services ... mps-cyprus

There is no information on pool pumps. It just reads like this:
"We will assign a project manager, field superintendent, engineer and other staff members as required to effectively manage the construction process. Praesent dapibus, neque id cursus faucibus, tortor neque egestas augue, eu vulputate magna eros eu erat. Aliquam erat volutpat. Nam dui mi, tincidunt quis, accumsan porttitor, facilisis luctus, metus."
Incidently, if any company wants an up-to-date website, do get in touch.
