Well said George, I to have known Mina's for many years & it's all a great shock. He knows the waters around Latsi better than most which makes it even more of a puzzle as to how it happened. I can't quite see the relevance of some of the comments questioning the need for a 300hp engine in a 25' boat. A Searay 240 Sundeck is guide a heavy boat (4700lbs) compared to most of the regular hire boats out of Latsi harbour (@ 3000lbs). The Mercruiser 350 mag is therefore adequate & is the standard fitment from the factory. It is not a souped up one off boat, as for the condition of the boat I think the Police saying the exterior condition of the boat was badly maintained, is absolute rubbish. I saw the boat most days and it always seemed very well kept. Our thoughts should be with all of the families involved and not knee jerk reactions based upon assumptions.

There is a Police station in Latchi harbour and a police boat moored there. Surely the water fuzz are keeping a watchful eye on what their relations are up to, with regards to boat hire out and into this harbour?

I mention the term 'relations' in accordance with my understanding that all Greek Cypriots are somehow apparently blood or half blood related to each other. Apologies if this analogy is incorrect...

Cheers- AL :)

Kintall1, thanks for the information. You seem to know the individual boat concerned. Can you please confirm that the boat was registered, licensed and insured for the kind of use it was put to?

How do you expect him to do that? This is an ongoing investigation. I am sure information will come out in the fullness of time, but there really is no need to grill friends of the driver about that here.
