Dominic, It's not a question of a 'fake' licence it's a matter of brown envelopes/knowing a relative etc. etc. to get a legitimate licence.

It does, but when the holder presents it in Cyprus there is no way of knowing how he/she obtained it, and being in the EU they have to accept it.
Speaking for myself I am not happy if only one fake licence holder is on the roads here - are you Dominic?

But you are talking complete hypotheticals! You have NO evidence to back up your allegations. The article itself stated that most Romanians preferred taking the Cypriot test anyway. You are trying to construct a story out of nothing.

So your answer is 'yes', since 'most' does not mean 'all'. I have worked in the Balkans (but not as long as the 30 years spent there by Varky) and all this goes on all the time there; it is the way they do things; as Varky said in an earlier post.
Why don't you believe us Dominic, but instead believe what you read in a newspaper.
I hope you are not involved in a road collision with one of those holding a fake licence.

Whether I believe you or not is irrelevant. You are not discussing the news article. You are making your own story.

We have been discussing:
1. The perceived accuracy of the report.
2. The possible ramifications of the report.

Is that a problem?

Anybody driving on a fake licence; I did say most European countries in one earlier post, it was your original article that mentioned Romanians specifically.
Fake licences are common place from many East European countries.
Even in UK there have been cases of one person taking a driving test for someone else.

No you were slagging off Romanians. And you were slagging off Romanians on a post in another thread which I moved to the pit and you have since deleted.

That's a first, somebody deleting one of their posts in the pit.

No problem, I had second thoughts about that one so deleted it - it was supposed to be a reply to one by WHL.
Regards Romanians it was YOU that started the thread in the first place, posting an article about Romanian truck drivers.
As I have already said it isn't just Romanians - it is many E.European countries.
If you don't like chat about Romanians, maybe you should delete your own OP??

I have no problem with discussing articles. But you weren't discussing the article. You clearly hadn't even read past the first paragraph.

The point is it isn't just Romanian nationals who can get driving here in a month, it is ANYONE from another EU Member Stare with a trucker's licence from their own country.
My main point is that this is part of being an EU Member State, and not necessarily good for road safety.
