Topics often evolve that way, Varky! To summarize, one member recommends the 'Black Widow' catapult from eBay, whereas Dominic earlier on commented that he'd tried this device, but it broke easily...

Perhaps another idea is a Crossbow with telescopic sight? Then eat the pigeon that night or next day? Strangely, you cannot seem to find proper crossbows (like you see at Game Fairs) on fleaBay, only kiddies toy versions...

Cheers- AL :)

Says a lot about those people taking a thread off subject. Maybe there should be an 'area' just for people wanting to insult others.

Catapults to fox hunting, yes things do drift off topic, that's the nature of debate/discussion. That said, some people don't find it an easy subject, considering ways to kill or injure a bird, some take it seriously and others find it amusing. Nowt so queer as folk.

koiseptember wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:41 am Bait slingers aren't that good for accuracy. I tried a number of catapults like the Black Widow, a while ago. They could send a ball bearing a serious distance. They did tend to break fairly easily though.

There is. It is called The Pit. If things get too out of hand, I move topics or posts there. Then they can continue arguing until they eventually get tired and fall asleep.

In this instance, HiC made a harmless enough comment that was taken the wrong way. That was all.

I think it is illegal to sell them on eBay, or eBay prohibit it themselves. Check their T&C.

I went on ebay as suggested and found loads. Why advertise if prohibited. Just asking? Haven't bought yet, the pigeons have disappeared. Maybe they saw the thread on PL?

Those crossbows are probably toys. These are the ebay guidelines:

Allowed
Bows and arrows
Non-pneumatic spear guns

Not allowed
Blow guns and blowpipes
Crossbows
Dart guns
Disguised stun guns
Flares, flare guns, flare launchers or receivers for flare guns
High voltage electric stunning devices
Potato guns such as bazookas, cannons, or launchers
Pneumatic spear guns
Replica Tasers
Shockers and shock guns
Stun guns
Weapons which discharge noxious liquids or gases such as tear gas or pepper spray dispenser

Interestingly, catapults aren't even classed as a weapon. I bought a couple of black widow catapults off ebay. They were very good but not very durable.

The Black Widow catapults I browsed on eBay all seem to be described as a 'hunting' device.

Most seem to come with a supply of ammo in the form of steel ball bearings, ranging in diameter from 6mm to 9.5mm

So what kind of creature(s) would a Rambo-like hunter dressed in camouflage gear be hunting for his supper, I wonder? Does this catapult kill, injure, or simply scare the intended target?

Quite right this post had nothing to do with foxes. By the way foxes will kill pigeons and anything else that they can reach! At present Foxes are at the top of the food chain with no preditors unless lynx or wolves or any other larger carniverous animal is imported and released into the wild,. This has been reported by the British press as a possibility, but farmers are not surprisingly opposed to this idea! Mark seems to be a lover of foxes....

Dee

As you might remember, I too am a lover of foxes, indeed any animal. They are on this planet with just as much right as the human animal. Without going on the old for/against roundabout again, everyone on here has their own view, I may not agree with you, but I would defend your right to say it, as I do with Mark's comments.

Agreed fully with you both, Dee and Jackie.

Still await a reply from Dominic as to what kind of creatures are 'hunted' with these £15 Black Widow catapults (with ball bearing ammuntion), and for what purpose, by the camouflaged Rambo hunter?

@Dominic: Referring to your list of banned items on fleaBay, where do the following fit in, please:

.177 Air pistol / Air Rifle
.22 Air pistol / Air Rifle

You can buy everything else for these, ammo, cleaning kits, telescopic sights, etc, but not the rifle nor pistol itself! How does eBay categorize these- BLOW GUNS?

I was just reproducing the relevant text from eBay guidelines. If you want to question it you should ask them.
