Re: Turkish Cypriot protesters: ???Pain cannot be celebrated???
Well on this side they commemorate (the word used by the local media and TV) the 20th July 1974 events by sirens. They also closed off access to the Ledra Street crossing point to right wing demonstrators.
The "north" had a flypast of fighter jets over the "flag" that overlooks Nicosia - clearly a provocative act, as are the sirens that can be heard in the "north"
I don't see the difference.
There is so must hate between the two communities it is not surprising the recent re-unification talks in Switzerland came to nothing.
Geoff.

Geoffreys,
Do not confuse hatred by politicians with hatred by communities. One does not necessarily mean that the other follows.

Good for them, they and their opposite's on the G/Cypriot side....these people are true Cypriots, I wish them all the success for the future....Paphos Life wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2017 8:48 am Turkish Cypriot activists of the citizens??? initiative Dayanisma (Solidarity) in the north demonstrated outside Mustafa Akinci???s office during a function organised by the Turkish Cypriot leader to commemorate the anniversary of the events on 20 July....

Re: Turkish Cypriot protesters: ???Pain cannot be celebrated???
Fair point - I was referring to the Politicians and extremist groups.
When I first came to Cyprus (1972) I detected virtually no animosity between the two communities.
There are always exceptions of course - one or two can be found on other Cyprus forums.

Couldn't agree more. The solution will come from the people, not the politicians.WHL wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2017 10:10 amGood for them, they and their opposite's on the G/Cypriot side....these people are true Cypriots, I wish them all the success for the future....Paphos Life wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2017 8:48 am Turkish Cypriot activists of the citizens??? initiative Dayanisma (Solidarity) in the north demonstrated outside Mustafa Akinci???s office during a function organised by the Turkish Cypriot leader to commemorate the anniversary of the events on 20 July....
