Every year we have dangerous wild fires which sometimes come close to houses and your little water supply is no help in case it reaches your garden and property. If you own a swimming pool which can be your water depot in case you have to fight a nasty fire then you should own a strong garden pump with at least 1100 W and a pressure of 4-6 bar. The output pipe should be at least 25 mm to get enough water for your efforts and of course long enough to reach your boundaries. I bought one just last week at Lidl's as it was on offer and much stronger than my existing one.

If you ever had a wild fire close by it is really frightening. It happened to me several times when I lived in Neo Chorio and one time I just moved my two cars, took my documents and animals and left my property as the fire was already very close with unbelievable heat, wind and smoke....

A second solution ( and I installed it in my place as well) is to connect a long 32 mm hose with the output pipe of your pool (backwash pipe) and prepare joints (reducer) that it is a quick fix in case you need it. But for this it is of course necessary that the output pipe of the pool lays with easy access somewhere in your garden. In case of a fire you just close the skimmer valves and open the bottom valve and go on position: Waste. Switch on the pool pump and you will have plenty water (40-80 tons) with high pressure. Fire fighter would get jealous of that power (specially the ones coming with a pick-up and 2 tons of water....) I have only a 1 hp pump but when I played the hose at the brushes and trees as a fire came close to my place the pressure I had and the amount of water was really great and I succeeded to stop the fire then. It makes you feel much more safe.
This little investment can save you thousands of Euros not to forget the time it needs until everything is like it was before a fire...

We are as well prepared as we can be.. However the supply pipe to the property is only 25-32mm
But our outside hose pipe is connected to the pressure pump so we do get an increased pressure.

A few years ago we had a brush fire right up to a few feet from our gateway..

But in case of a fire your supply water will be reduced and the pressure pump to get increased pressure won't work as expected and suck air.. in the worse case NO water will come to your place if you have neighbours with the same idea...

Its a good idea, but if its a big fire then there is a good possibility that the electricity will be down, so then you need a generator as well .

Trev, I have also a pressure pump for my water in the house and the garden pipe but when connected to a long hose there is so little pressure left that it is hard to clean my PV panels with that. Won't help in case of a fire as these pressure pumps have usually only 2.5 bar. My tank at the roof has 1500 l which is a kind a standard here. If there is an desperate need for a lot of water it will be not enough. On the other hand: when I connect to the pool pump there is so much pressure that I have problems to hold the pipe with one hand.... and my pool holds 70 tons of water...

Well all I can tell you is that we have plenty of pressure at the end of our 50mt hose. We have 2,000 litres in the tanks and of course they start to slowly refill as soon as you use the hose..

We don't have a pool so no pump there and I don't think I will be buying another separate pump.

But as you say, anything that people can do to fight any potential fire has to be good
