It's a cheap solution I've used here in my 1973 Wimpey-built EOT 3 bed 2 storey house, where the internal walls are either load-bearing breeze block on GF, or stud work / plasterboard upstairs. A bit different to normal Cy construction, yes?

More feedback on my initial question that CG replied to is most welcome, please. I am NOT trying to sell anything here, just advising, based on my own experience, which is what PL is all about!

Cheers- AL :)
Why don't you just say what it is...?

I think you know the answer to your own question don't you...? WiFi doesn't travel well through reinforced concrete because the embedded rebar absorbs the signal.

For that reason, I had my house wired with an Ethernet network throughout during construction and I have WiFi access points on the three floors connected to a router in the basement.

You can replicate the network with Home Plugs and use the mains cabling as your network instead but they tend not to like consumer units and three phase wiring can present problems too...

Thank you CG! So your LAN was well thought out and implemented in advance. Nice one! Therefore, my idea will be of zilch interest to you personally.

Let's await feedback from other friends on here, eh? Cheers- AL :)

OK,

there seems to be a dissent between thos advocating fixed IPs (even with DHCP on) and those relying and dynamic allocation. Thanks
There seems to be a point that devices - when using "dynamic" need ti be switched on one after the other. I may hav violated this rule
when I cama back from a trip dring which all devices were powered off at mains level. Coming back I just switched the power switch and
they all powered up prettx much in parallel. Maybe at that point an IP conflict was created? Difficult to prove after the event...

They don't need to be switched on one after the other.

I think Al was saying they should all have been switched off first, before switching on the new router. If you switch two items on at the same time it won't matter. They both ask for an IP address from the router, but it only allocates them one at a time.

What you need to be doing is running with everything but your PC turned off. Connect your PC via an ethernet cable, and then try. See what you get then.

Just an update on progress:

After several phone conversations both the technical support call center and the complaints department, CYTA agreed there was a fault somewhere. They agreed to cancel may "mandatory upgrade" and send yet antother engineer. He found the router which I was given last saturday be a used one (not new) and propably faulty. He brought a new one. He then promised to call once he had contact with Nocosia to get the profile set up correctly. But since the end (they work until 12.30 or 13.30) and his home in Kathikas was nye, he disappered and I have not heard since.
For the moment my speed is ok.

Just a thought, but does the Cyta Wi-Fi router have an option to use it in 'Modem-only Mode', whereby you can attach your own Wi-Fi router (Netgear, Asus, etc) to it with an ethernet cable?

This is exactly the kind of setup I have here with the Virgin Media Superhub 2ac in modem-only mode, along with a Netgear WNR3500L USB wi-fi router that does 10/100/1000 on LAN and WAN, plus 'N' >300 on wi-fi

Before, my Galaxy Ace smartphone was showing 54mbps on 'G'. Now, it's reporting just under 200mbps speed on 'N' !!! Daughter was highly impressed when she visited earlier this week with her (ahem!) Apple iPhone and iPad when she connected...

Cheers- AL :)

Yes, you can in any case have another router behind the CYTA-router. In my case it is an ASUS Black Diamond RT N660U which is programmed to serve as a VPN router with HMA to avoid geoblocking issues.
Just stick it into one of the WAN connectors....

Hang on a mo, Peter... ONE of the WAN connectors?? A Wi-Fi router usually has only ONE (clearly marked, different colour) WAN socket, then 4 LAN sockets.

Beginning to wonder if you have two wi-fi routers on the same system, both fighting for DHCP supremacy, perhaps? This could account for your conflicting IP addresses issue, without a doubt in my mind!
