Coral bay to Peyia road

Post by jonjo »

Work has started to either widen the road or create pavements - does anyone have any details?

On which section of the road? I know they have recently been installing traffic lights on the junction at the Paphos end of 'Banana Bay'.

*edit*.. Sorry, just realised I am talking about an entirely different road to you.

Flossie, I agree, I really dislike that junction. I've seen so many accidents and had so many near misses here over the years. Hopefully traffic lights will improve the situation. Just be prepared for chaos for a few days when they are initially switched on!

They give a changing coloured glow to major road junctions :-)

The Coral Bay to Peyia road will be straightened, widened and will have pavements. It will be done like the Tombs of the Kings road but with 2 lanes only (not four) and will have about 5 roundabouts.

I know there have been a lot of accidents on the Coral Bay/ Pegeia road but this is not the fault of the road, rather the drivers using it. I think that widening it will only encourage speeding and may lead to an increase in accidents.

Well, overtaking will be impossible on the new road and pavements are absolutely necessary. Also the roundabouts will make the road more safe.

Agreed, Louise! I think that zorba didn't study your graphic closely enough, thereby failing to notice that this is now two lanes, one in each direction, seperated by a central floral barrier, making overtaking impossible!

The addition of pedestrian pavements either side is a very clever and safe move, too...

Has anyone please got a map of this particular stretch of road that I can peruse?

Thanks- AL :)

Al, the best visual of it is via https://www.bing.com/maps/
Go to that site... move to The Coral Bay / Peyia area, and Zoom in..
Go to 'Road' top right and a drop down box opens.
Click on 'Birdseye', and then go to the label button and turn it OFF
You can now zoom in some more and move the picture to where you want.

Are we talking about the Coral Bay to Peyia road as the title suggests or the road from Kissonerga/Chlorakas to the Coral Bay roundabout alongside Potima Bay?

That's why I asked for a specific map, Varky. As despite Trev's kind instructions, I'm still none the wiser, tbh...

We talk (at least I do) about the road from Coral Bay to Peyia. The new road will end roughly near the stadium area.

It is the road that goes from Coral Bay roundabout UP to Peyia, near stadium etc.

Sorry, my fault, I read the original post and mistakenly interpreted it as being the coastal road along 'Banana Bay'. As others have pointed out, the original post was about the road from the Coral Bay roundabout, up into Peyia.

I too understood it to be the road from the roundabout up towards Peyia. That's what the title of the thread is saying.
I must admit that I don't just know where the roadworks will stop on the way into Peyia

Great they are putting pavements on the improved road from Coral Bay to Peyia. However when walking up passed the 'Brewery' the owners seems to think the pavement belongs to them and installs large sign boards so any wheelchair bound person can't use the pavement. Shame on them. The new major has been asked three times to my knowledge to get them removed.
