Burglary

Post by Lofos-Jan »

I do hate posting negative comments but we had a burglary at our holiday home in Tala (Lofos area - right on the main road) on Saturday. Pretty horrid and the guests flew home only 4 days into their 2 week holiday as they were so distressed and scared to think they were being watched. I hate these lowlifes. Be vigilant people.

Terrible news. Sad for you and for the guests. Lowlifes indeed.

That is absolutely awful for you, Jeanne... Not to mention your guests, vacating 4 days into a 14 night dream holiday, thinking they were being 'watched'!

Truth is, they probably were! So when you go out at night, it's VITAL that you leave the place 100% secure, just like you do back at home in UK! It might be worth thinking about an added security meaure, like a CCTV that alerts you (and them) on your mobiles that an intruder is in the house?

How quickly Pafos Old Bill would respond to your crime report is another matter, sadly...

Thanks Louise and Al. It's sad to have to make somewhere look like Fort Knox - we considered CCTV before but thought it was possibly very off-putting for holiday makers but will now have to reconsider. To be fair to Paphos police - they were at the property within 3/4 of an hour from reporting it and finger printed where the break in occurred. They even took details of a boot print (intruder had come over some scrub land and made contact with water somewhere hence a few boot prints).

All in all, I do still feel very safe in Cyprus - certainly much more so than when I lived in London.

Strangely enough, during our 12yrs in Cyprus the only door that was ever locked was the front door because it was a Yale and so locked automatically.

Now we're back in uk just over one year and the only door that is locked is still the front door - because we rarely use it 😃

We just swapped one village life for another. Very little real crime here....
