Not my pet, but cute and interesting... pics

Post by cyprusmax47 »

I positioned a mouse trap one year ago near my car and realized today that 2 cats (not mine) moved the whole thing meters away towards the house. After chasing the cats away I saw something very small in this cage: a mouse (mus cypriacus) endemic to Cyprus. Ihttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6043648.stm I think it is ever so cute and after I put some food and water in the trap I managed some pics in better quality, as it is very difficult to focus. (140 pics were no good) ;)

So this is the animal friendly trap I have already many years (as I cannot kill animals) :!:

What lovely pics.
Last Autumn when I was clearing out a summer flower bed I found a little mouse nest, I had heard rustling in the vegetation several times but assumed it was lizards (as opposed to something worse) but obviously it was a mouse family.
Considering my sixteen cats something of a miracle that they should choose such a place but since I have yet to be brought a mouse as a present I like to think that they found it a safe haven.
Have never seen mice here in the garden, but hedgehogs and carob rats, and of course plenty of lizards etc and of course those other things...............
Keep posting the pics, Max, so interesting and enjoyable, I forward them to my nature mad granddaughter in Oz. she loves getting them.

So now you have caught it, what are you going to do with it? Is this the start of Max's Zoo? :)

I thought when it is not hungry anymore to drive some distance with the car and release it in the wild near a field where it can find some wheat grain..
and hope it is not coming back

If you like Harvest Mice, Flossie, then you'll love this little fellow living inside a tennis ball in Thetford, Norfolk (© Bing.com - my homepage background pic a few days ago)

and thanks for those lovely pictures of your temporary big-eared mouse resident, Max! You are are star, nurturing it like that, then releasing it back into the wild..

Rather than setting a trap with a lump of cheese as bait, then BANG, dead..

I'm afraid I have to admit to feeding the mice in my garden, such lovely little things. I sit outside at night and watch them scuttling round.

I had a most extraordinary experience with a mouse once. I had two beautiful cats, and they caught a mouse, as cats do. Very proudly they showed me their prey. I decided to try and rescue the mouse, although I didn't want to hurt the cat's feelings - after all, they were offering me a lovely, furry, edible gift! I stood over the mouse with the intention of picking him/her up and releasing it into the wood next door. Now, I was wearing loose tracksuit bottoms, and the mouse saw an opportunity, and shot up my trouser leg with alacrity. With equal speed, I removed my trousers - but no sign of the invading rodent. I turned the trousers inside out, hunted high and low - but the mouse....had....GONE!!!!

That's a really cute mouse, Max. I think you should keep him as a pet! Unless you have cats, of course....
