Fire near Power Station last night

Post by trevnhil »

It seems like there was a big fire near fuel storage and the main power station last night (Monday)

This just beggars belief! Particularly after the "accident" back in 2011 when about 300 containers full of explosive material were parked in a field near Vasilikos.when they blew up they caused massive damage to the power station which took over a year to repair and which cost a mega amount of euros. Plus loss of life.
Wonder why the powers that be (no pun intended!) allowed the large development of fuel supplies to be built too close to the power station? Also to allow flammable materiala like timber and wood to be kept anywhere near it?
And finally if the report is true the fire precautions and action in the event of a fire could have been better?

They must be, it's insanity (as per the old definition!)
Utterly unbelievable, they have learned nothing. Can you imagine how the families of the dead firemen and sailors feel?

Presumably the powers that be aren't telling, that would mean admitting that they the ones who share one brain cell.

What a terrible disaster it was. 13 people killed. Only it were 98 containers, not 300. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelos ... _explosion

Unfortunately, it appears to be a local failing to take on board the reasons why any disaster happens,or the conclusions reached. This is equalled by the the reluctance from the top to the bottom to ever take responsibility when there is a major incident on this sunny isle.
But eventually someone somewhere has to shoulder the blame....
Yes, sorry itvwas 98 containers, not sure why I put the larger figure
