Parking

Post by WHL »

We all come across terrible parking, from inconsiderate people here in Cyprus, but this clown back in the UK, would give them a run for their money.

That beats the three bays I once saw somebody take up at Carrefour.

An inch over the line at my local car park cost £60.

The "best" examples of car parking in Paphos are the supermarkets.

Paps on the Mesogi Road is classic. DIAGONAL parking???

And AlphaMega is just quality. "I cannot squeeze into that space so I will just leave it here, in the driveway."

Yes, I was a victim of diagonal parking as praticised by the driver of the longest make of the duo cab truck. As well as taking two 2 spaces in the car park at Paps, Mesogi Rd, the off side rear of the truck was protruding into my car space. As the car on the other side of me was also very close to the white line of his space. I didn't feel confident of trying to reverse out. I ended up waiting about 25mins for the driver in question to finish his shopping and removing his truck. This was despite the supermarket using the tannoy system asking him to come to move his car, which he ignored. Dee

It can get quite amusing at the Bank of Cyprus in Polemi too. I am regularly blocked in there. Though in fairness, if you let them know, they will come out of the bank where they are queuing, and move for you. And best of all, they seem to keep their place in the queue too, which is civilised and certainly wouldn't happen in the UK. Well not Surrey Heath anyway.

Cannot let a thread concerning parking in supermarkets go without relating this little gem, which is allegedly a true story...

A woman in the USA parked her SUV in a large supermarket car park, then went in to do her shopping. When she came out, she had clean forgotten where she had parked. She asked Security for help. He loaded her bags into the boot of his car, and off they went, round and round until she finally spotted her SUV.

He helped load her bags, but was surprised to note that strapped to the roof rack of her SUV was a 14 foot long bright red canoe!!!

Always makes me chuckle, this story, LOL! Cheers- AL ;)

For those of you who particularly enjoy the way Cypriots park, there is a Facebook group called "Parking like a twit in cyprus" with lots of pictures.

Now that is criminal damage and very naughty! You obviously are oblivious to the fact that most supermarket carparks have 24/7 HD CCTV surveillance running, so you would be caught, fined, plus pay hefty repair bills, not to mention a criminal record...

Are you by any chance insane, I wonder? AL

If you don't "do" Facebook then what will you do if I give you a link to the Facebook Group which is on Facebook?

I don't do facebook either. In fact, I tend to refer to it as FAKEBOOK. People have 500+ or even thousands of 'friends' there? I feel priviliged to have 5 genuine, lifelong friends. Perhaps this could be the subject of a different thread - entitled facebook or fakebook?
Unquote..

I am not sure why people who don't use a particular social media group feel the need to denigrate it by calling it a different name ie Fakebook.
I know another member on this group who does not like Twitter, or Facebook, so he calls them 'TwitFace'

If members here personally don't like these groups, just allow those of us who do to enjoy our passtime without poking fun at what we do..

Your 'sorry' is all that is needed and is easily accepted Lifesabeach.. Everyone is different and entitled to opinions that may not suit all.. I wasn't particularly referring to yourself as I know many don't agree with social media, but of course many of us do.
We have digressed a little from Parking :-)

Okay then, back on topic, yes? I find parking a lot easier now that I have a Blue Badge. This seems to be an EU wide scheme from what the badge says.

Does Cyprus have a similar scheme for designated Disabled bays on street, public car parks, supermarket car parks, I wonder? Cheers- AL :)

Personally I like Facebook. If people decide to have 500 friends then that's their lookout. Personally, I think I have about 35. The thing is though, you add them yourself, so it is entirely up to you.

Facebook is great for keeping in touch with people, and for saving photos for posterity.

And remember folks, Paphos Life is on Facebook, so you can always say hello to us there! :)

I'm not so good with Twitter though. I always end up reading people's tweets two days after they made them.

Yes they do, and people generally adhere to them. We had to ferry my wife around with a broken leg in 2015, and the bays were useful, even without a blue badge.
