Looking for a plumber recommendation

Post by memory man »

My next door neighbour who is in UK at the moment, but I have access to house.

There is water pouring from a pipe which seems to come from one of the
water tanks. It's too high for me to see exactly, but I have a ladder to access the roof if need be.

Can anyone help. I am in Emba area.

If you know where the fresh water supply pipe is, you can close the tap of it, for the time you found a plumber..

Nice one, Flossie! I have laid a virtual £10 bet that the culprit is a stuck ballcock in the cold water tank on the roof, allowing water to overflow.

Good idea (if my guess proves correct) is to replace the existing cheapo unit (designed for soft water areas / low pressure) with a slightly more expensive high pressure ballcock, for hard water areas!

BTW: You're a good neighbour, MemoryMan!

Cheers- AL :)

P Al was correct. Stuck ballcock. You win a tenner.

All fixed now. Thanks for info Flossie.

You cannot believe how this has made my day, folks!

Again, thanks to MM for being such a kind and observant neighbour, not to mention Flossie, who stepped in with a fast fix! Imagine what the water bill would have been otherwise, next time the owner came out ???

Best switch OFF the mains water tap when vacating the premises, as Max alluded to higher up!

Another HOT TIP regarding flat roof modern properties in Cyprus concerns water leakage down INSIDE the vacant house! Wind blown leaves and paper etc can end up blocking the tiny little flat roof drainage pipe through the external wall.

Resulting in the flat roof area becoming a kind of rain-filled swimming pool. Nice for the local birds, maybe, but once the water level reaches a certain depth, DOWN it will flow into your lounge and kitchen diner area, causing expensive remedial works!

Never seen this issue reported before on CL or PL, so I just thought I'd alert you all to this potential vulnerability. It happened in a 2 Bed house I used to stay in often in Kellys Dream, Priamou St, courtesy of Dave on CL. This could happen to anyone, so get up on the roof regularly and check (or ask a trusted friend to do so)!

Cheers- AL
