It is! If voted through it will seriously weaken the law protecting birds & controlling hunting!

Its their country... they decide....personally I wouldn't eat them. but they have been eating them for over a thousand years, since the Venetians run the place, and introduced this delicacy to the Cypriots,....Malta and Italy and other Mediterranean countries consume more....two points, if they are not eaten here they just get eaten when they cross to other shores, secondly they have been coming over for thousands of years? so how comes they arnt extinct yet....

They are deciding. That's why so many Cypriots are against it.

Dominic ....like I said to me eating a little bird is akin to eating a little mouse, yuk..but for Cypriots its a way of life...its something that will never go away... and Ive been to restaurants in Paralimni where the main consumers, ordering dozens of them, were young people...the latest thing Im told is to wrap them up in vine leafs to look like dolmades.

pm me the names of the restaurants & I'll quite happily report them to the relevant authorities for breaking the law ............ because that is what they are doing?

Yes Cypriots some of them kill birds and cook and eat them, but it is not done to any large degree these days or I should say as much as it once was, in fact, our Cy family although they hunt them later in the year they also feel netting is wrong as it most certainly is, now our lot eat them very rarely so certainly not a way of life as mentioned, personally I feel very strongly against any killings of any animals but I moved here and although I disagree with some of the Cypriots ways of living and hunting who are we to give them rules?..

Firstly, the figure killed is large ........... in 2014 it was estimated at over 2.5 million birds! Personally, I don't have a problem with a local Cypriot killing a few birds for a special meal but it's gone way beyond that now as organised gangs now control the activities & make millions of euros out of the illegal practice!

Shane, as I posted many locals are totally against netting and lime sticking as I am also, but we just cannot tell the Cypriots what to do in their country, if the law is changed then this would be good news, I hope the law of enforcing animal poisonings is also upheld because it isn't, to see a dog die this way is truly appalling.
