800 Camden residents being evacuated from 5 tower blocks

Post by PhotoLady »

The natives are not happy at all, and you can hardly blame them..... after days of checks and being told one minute there are problems, then it's okay, to be told tonight at around 8pm UK time they have to literally pack up the necessities they will need for a few days and leave their homes forthwith, is all a bit too much to take!

Some were informed, others found out from friends or neighbours and others from seeing it on the TV news

In the German Press they are reporting not from 800 residents but 800 households which had to move out of their homes. So this figure is between ca 4000 and 6000 people.... :!: which must find a place to stay (if they have animals, not easy) somewhere else.

I'm at a total loss why you quote a mistake made by a German paper, when the official figure is about 800 residents. Even if what you say were true, how can you justify up to 6000 inhabitants, which would mean over 7 persons/flat? German sensationalist papers like Der Bild are as bad as the UK press for exaggerating

Was just recently questioning the German Bild in one of my posts, so you don't have to rub it in.

An old article from 2014 but it certainly matches our holiday experiences of the worst sunbed reservists - and it wasn't the Germans!

But only if one believes the permanent nonsense German "Bild" is printing...... much worse than the Sun

I heard the story today in BFBS and double checked it in international pages ( not Bild) which confirmed what was said in the radio.

So, more than 700 households housing only 8oo people? There are many flats with more than 5 occupants so you can do some math... :D
Sure many of the flats are empty as in GB is no problem with asylum seeker    or I am wrong again?

The BBC said it was households, rather than residents too.

However, though some of the households will have 5 people, others will have 1 or 2.

Let's just agree that it is a lot. :)

The latest figure now is 650.
The original quote of 800 households was from Georgia Gould, Camden Council leader. Quoted even in the Telegraph.
However today they are saying one block don't need to evacuate, so now they are saying 650.

London,24June2017
Council Leader tells of concerted effort to carry out fire safety work through the night

Camden Council Leader, Georgia Gould, said:
"Hundreds of Camden Council employees, led by myself and the Chief Executive, worked right through the night to support residents from around 650 homes into alternative accommodation. This operation remains unprecedented in scale for Camden.

“We have been further supported in this process by police and fire officers, the British Red Cross, and other voluntary partners. I thank all those who have played a part so far.

“On the estate overnight we swiftly began work to address fire safety issues that the London Fire Brigade had identified and which led the Brigade to say late on Friday that residents should not remain in the buildings until these issues are resolved.

“The concerted effort to carry out fire safety work overnight at the estate resulted in the fire service being satisfied that one of the blocks, Blashford (containing around 70 homes), did not need to be evacuated...

It was originally 800 households from 5 tower blocks. The Leader of Camden Counci, on SKY News-UK, said this was 4000 people (incl children).
Later 1 block was given the all-clear and the residents allowed to return.
Leaving, she said, 650 households from the other 4 blocks.
Some households only have 1 person, others up to 7 or 8. Average 5 persons per household (flat).
650 x 5 = 3,250 persons to be evacuated.
As at 3.00 pm Cyprus time 89 households had refused to leave.
