Medications

Post by PaphosAL »

Do any other PL members suffer from incurable diseases like COPD, Emphazema and similar, like me, that require daily medications (Inhalers and so on)? Here's my list:

Salbutamol 100 micrograms/dose inhaler (Ventolin)- two puffs when needed
Fostair 100/6 Inhaler; 2 puffs twice daily
Tiotropium Bromide 18 microgram inhale capsules (Spiriva), 1 per day
Carbosysteine 375mg capsules, 2 three times per day

Cannot find ANY of these medications in Dominic's Med Prices directory! Does this mean that nobody in Cyprus suffers from COPD, or would it mean that if I retire to Paphos in the next year or two, I'd need to find some way of shipping my repeat prescriptions from UK to CY?

Thanks- AL :?:

It is more than likely that in Cyprus different drugs are used for the same complaint.

I updated the list tonight, though I have yet to change the title.

My Salbutamol inhalers which came back with me from Cyprus have the name: Salamol CFC-Free Inhaler 100 micrograms on white box with blue design. These were prescribed to me by the visiting GPs at the village clinic in Limassol.

Even medication which is on the official list may not be available. E. g. sumatriptane, a drug against migraines. I needed to go to the North in order to get it. So you better check with a local pharmacist what is and isn´t available rather than relying on that list.

Well yes. Because it is a maximum price list, not a stock list.

FYI, Sumiatriptan has been available in every pharmacy I've called in in Paphos. Ask for imigran.

On a side note....Theres a story in today's Cyprus mail, of a Pharmacist being arrested for selling prescription drugs without prescription.

I think its a good thing, but I have to admit, doing it myself, but the Pharmacist has known me for thirty years

If you don't see the name of your medication on the pharmacy list provided for Cyprus - Google the name of your medication to find the generic name for it. Then search the list again.

A lot of the medications in Cyprus and other European countries are generic rather than the branded name you're prescribed in UK.
