Glen Campbell
Glen Campbell
A lighten-up but sad moment. Just watched Glen Campbell's daughter on the One Show talking about her father now suffering from that so cruel illness Alzheimer's. But she related times and recent shows when he went on stage and instantly played some old hits, and duos with her on the banjo. No silly comments please bassman.
Some happy memories for her and the family.
Also announced a new album, details of which I sadly missed, but will look out for it in shops and online.
Good to hear that just sometimes, families and sufferers can occasionally beat this monster.

Re: Glen Campbell
Alzheimer's is absolutely shit..... it steals peoples' lives right from under their noses. The couple who live in the bungalow just across the street (the lady is just turned 90), her husband just a few months younger than her has it. Now, he doesn't move unless someone tells him to, cannot get dressed, doesn't speak or hold a conversation any longer and can barely walk more than a few steps unaided.
When my Dad was in hospital last September (Henry, the neighbour) ended up in the bed next to my Dad because his wife had to have a broken hip fixed and he was unable to look after himself. He was just going into the onset of Alzheimer's then but he could walk, talk and string sentences together..... the sooner they find a way of slowing it down or a cure, the better.

Re: Glen Campbell
I started listening to Glen Campbell a few years ago but re visited him about five years ago and bought his recent releases. His music is great.
Anyone interested in his music should watch the documentary I'll be me which shows him touring and suffering with Alzheimer's yet still being able to sing and play guitar beautifully.
His next and last album is called Adios and is released this Friday.

Why is his reference to you sick? You two obviously like arguing. Just put him on ignore and the problem goes away.

As I said, put him on ignore and you won't see his posts again. The same goes to Smudger; if you want to ensure Bassman doesn't make comments, just put him on ignore. Don't tell him not to comment. That is just being provocative.

Re: Glen Campbell
I love Glen Cambell saw him live at BBC Studios way back when music was music. Sorry to know of his illness and wish him well.
Like Jules I have brother who has just been admitted to a care home suffering from the same disease- very sudden onset- and it is a very wicked disease watching one of your loved ones who, in normal circumstances, rapidly descend into a world where he does not recognise his own family is more than heartbreaking.
Thank you Glen for many hours of pure delight. God Bless

She now has a son who is one year old and we are all returning to the island in September so her friends still in Cyprus can meet our grandson.Discopants wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2017 11:14 pm
Nice to hear from you again Gary, do hope that you're keeping well. I've been an admirer of Glens for many years, both his singing and guitar playing.
We are not staying in Paphos but we are staying at Nissi beach. Quite a few of her friends living in Cyprus have booked into the same hotel and we will hire a car and visit Limassol for a night to meet some Cypriot friends.
I have always been a lurker on the Cyprus forums but this impending visit has seen me post a little. Hope you and yours are keeping well.
Re Alzheimer's I have a sister in law only 61, she was clever, a successful businesswoman who suffers with dementia and her decline was very rapid, four months in fact. We are visiting her this weekend in Manchester but she will not know us. It's a terrible thing. Her husband has a wife but he has lost his wife if you know what I mean...........if only a cure could be found.
Re: Glen Campbell
Certain medications can be quite effective for Alzheimer's Disease, no cure, but they can slow the progress of it. Having the diagnosis early enough helps, but if the sufferer is in denial, it can be difficult to persuade them that they need to see a doctor.
Glen Campbell's music is always a pleasure to listen to.

As with any other serious illness, of course you would.

Re: Glen Campbell
this has been known in "alternative healing" circles for a long while, but the wider public never get to know about it. as you say HIC, worth a try and it is good for you.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2017 2:50 am I've posted it before and I'll post it again, just in case it can help someone with Alzheimers Disease. It's certainly something I would investigate if someone in our family was suffering a degenerative condition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVD7ZuCe3vY

I can't imagine where you get the notion that the wider public never get to know about it. I have known about it for roughly three years, the information is out there, if you look for it.

Re: Glen Campbell
you are right Jackie, but, you only have to look at some of the comments on this forum to realise that there are a lot of people out there that do not know!
