Was waiting 6 month: Fresh fish at the sea front again

Post by cyprusmax47 »

Finally my favorite Fish Restaurant were serving after a 6 month break on the sea front again. It makes so much difference to me as the air is so nice and fresh not to forget the view. It was a bit windy but I resisted and enjoyed my fresh fish even the place was nearly empty as the Cypriots preferred to eat indoors. 2 weeks ago I had a delicious Baracuda - this time fresh little Barbounia (Red Mullet) just out of the water early morning. Again I insisted to have the fish slightly undercooked and it was done perfectly. I like to eat the Barbounia the old traditional way, holding head and tail in my hands and nibble the meat off the bone. Of course first sprinkled with pure sea salt crystals. I started with a large village salad and toasted bread with tahini and pickled caper leaves, after finishing that I ordered the fish to be served with potato chips from young potatoes harvested behind the place just a couple of weeks ago.
Normally they serve free fruits of the season (at the moment melon, apricots etc.) but I prefer only Greek Coffee and Lebanese Cream Pudding sprinkled with nuts.
I always sit in the far corner when it is windy like today...

Is my treat every Saturday since more than 2 years, > 80 times so far, as I live recently not too far away, driving time 15 min from Tsada Golf area.
Easy to find as you drive to the airport road and as soon as you can see the Army runway on the right you turn to the left with a road sign saying
Filiotis Fish Tavern.
On a Sunday they are very busy with Cypriots from as far as Nicosia, so I always choose to come Saturday...to really enjoy peacefully :)

You got good taste, Max. :D I was there on Friday, with my wife, sat at the same corner table by the sea. We had calamari and sea bream with village salad starter. Large bottle of Keo of course.

Actually, although I'd only be there in spirit, rather than in person, this sounds like a fabulous venue for a PL members Saturday lunchtime gathering- rather like CL used to do in bygone days.

What think ye, Max, Dominic, Lloyd, Smudger, Allesley, Trevnhil, et al? Cheers- AL 8-)

PS @ Max: Inside Filiotis Fish Taverna, do you see painted wall murals depicting Kyrenia, where he and his family escaped from back in 1974, and set up a beachside establishment, a bit like Riccos the other side of PFO?
Gone but not forgotten...

As a CL group Alan we never went there, I have used it many times personally, the Calamari is just the best and it's sea front location is one of the best in the west..not a cheap venue but worth it for a good time meal.

Easy to find take the airport road before that bend and as already posted just past the army watch tower look to the left for a large restaurant sign, follow the track. I also walk the pooch in that area most days.

The one near your new place on the cliff has got a beautiful view towards Akamas and the harbour but concerning the food I tried several times and was not impressed. Also too touristic for me..
