We had to slow down to let a black snake cross the road in front of us. It was moving slowly because it had a mouse in its mouth, so it gave our daughter a chance to actually see one. Normally they shoot across and are gone before she sees them.

That's what one can see in this video how slow the snake disappeared with her prey. If she was not disturbed from the bike she would have started swallowing the rat on site. They are ever so fast when moving in Summer unlike the viper which is always slow.

I remember shortly after we first moved here, Andreas Tsalapatis was explaining to us that he was pleased he had a large black snake living in and around his winery because it kept the mice & small birds away. A few days later, we were driving past his winery and a large black snake was crossing the road. Much to the disgust of the Cypriot in the car behind us, we not only slowed to let the snake cross, OH pulled our twin cab into the middle of the road, preventing said Cypriot from overtaking and (possibly) harming the snake.

We've since seen several black snakes while out and about in the countryside, and even stood and watched as 2 indulged in a mating dance near our photovoltaic solar panels.

I too would always stop to allow a snake to cross the road..
