One of my favourite phrases - who decided that there was a 'right way' to play football?

Is tip-tap sideways stuff better than long ball forwards?

When I said the right way I mean playing by the rules, no diving if someone breaths on you, no rolling on the ground as thou a sniper shot you from the stand, no swearing/berating the officials, none of this all in wrestling when waiting for a corner/free kick etc etc...as ive said im a lover of great entertaining football, nothing wrong with a long ball, as for tippy tappy pass the ball the death, well thats not my cup of tea.

I think you'll find that many teams of the present and past have shown the world what football is and how it should be played. From the great Ajax teams, to Liverpool in the 70's/80's Barcelona in the noughties, Celtic playing great football and defeating the so-called invincible Catennacio style from Italy, of boring defensive and aggressive football. So, I think there are great examples of what should be the 'right way'.

There are also great examples of the 'wrong' or unattractive way. Results aren't everything. Winning in style is, in my opinion. It is an entertainment and there's nothing entertaining in defensive or long-ball football out of defense for an odd lucky goal.

Agree with a lot of what you say, not a lover of long balls, but sometimes its the only way a team with inferior players can compete against a more skillful team.

Although I agree with what you say, we are sadly wrong - remember Ian Holloway's entertaining Blackpool team? They are in the 4th Division now IIRC

As usual, the topic takes a detour!!

I have just been perusing the internet regarding all things Chelsea FC. It makes some interesting reading.

Chelsea FC have made significant financial loses since the Russian takeover. Over 100 million at one point and yet they continue to pay top prices for transfers and wages. Around 80% of their income is wages!!

How is that any way to run a club?

So where does the money come from? Straight out of Abramovic's pocket.

Is that right?

And where does he get the money from in the first place?

Wikipedia has some very interesting statements to make on that subject. Gangsters, fraud, bribes, arrests, imprisonment. Not what I would call a "wholesome" history. Rumours of gang murders when the takeover of the aluminium plants was ongoing, very nice, I don't think.

So, if you want to cheer on your team, fine, go ahead.

But please don't get upset if not everyone else is cheering with you.

There's no doubt that the best football this season has been played by Chelsea and Spurs, and both managers are likeable blokes. As usual, it's the men in the background that taint the pleasure. But it's been going on since I was a schoolboy, in the 60's. Now it's more public.(although I doubt if gangland murders took place then........)

Chelsea won the Premiership because they are the best Team out there. One day it will be Crystal Palace.
