There's something about thursday.

Post by Dominic »

One of the less glamourous tasks I have as a web admin, is keeping an eye on site statistics. In themselves, they aren't that relevent, unless they change.

I am puzzled about thursdays. For the first few months on Paphos Life, Thursday was a big day. It would regularly record the most amount of visitors, and page views. It was my yardstick which other days would look to. I have no idea why Thursday was so popular. It just was.

Then, all of a sudden, a few weeks ago, it became the least popular day for visitors. The overall weekly stats increased slightly, which you would expect for a relatively new site, but people stopped viewing it so much on thursday.

Why is this?

Has a new TV show started on Thursdays?

I am genuinely curious. It makes absolutely no odds, in the grand scale of things. It just puzzles me.

Any suggestions?

The weather has picked up.... surely that would move use from day to evening as well?

The stats are per day, so time of day doesn't factor. Besides, weather would effect every day, wouldn't it?

We've had our selling website since 2008 and although I have Google Analytics embedded in the site, I rely on StatCounter for my day to day stat monitoring.

There have been many different patterns over the years mainly we assume because internet browsing has changed considerably in that time.

Our biggest selling days at the outset were usually Friday to Sunday and given the nature of our business, much busier during the months from mid September to April and a lot quieter in the summer when our customers don't sit looking at their collections so often.

Over more recent years we've seen the browsing figures change - reducing slightly over the weekend with the hits increasing through the week. People now browse on phones and tablets on the go whereas in the past it was PCs or laptops so most hits to the site were evenings/weekends and midweek at what you would class as lunchtime depending on where in the world they were looking at us from.

Actual sales days vs browsing haven't changed much during the period since we opened the site but sales have now rolled into Monday and Tuesday a little more, as if people have done their homework over the weekend then made the decision to buy (most likely after looking elsewhere). I can generally see where the actual users have returned back to the site if they didn't complete their purchase on their original visit if their revisits are within the space of 3 days.

Our numbers do go up however, when blog articles or page products are shared via facebook and twitter.

Could this be anything to do with your changes? Have you started sharing your blog posts in different places or at different times which may coincide with the switch in viewing figures....

I wonder if there is any association with the Lidl special offers days (Monday and Thursday) and whether people have actually changed their shopping days to suit. Gone shopping!! (Makes a change from Gone fishing!)

Pants. The last time I visited Lidl on a thursday there was a cloud of pants in the air. The throng was so tight around the new delivery of undergarments that I had to use a different aisle. And they are not shy when it comes to opening the packets and mixing and matching. Pants were flying about with gay abandon. I thought it was surreal but the staff seemed to think it was just another thursday.

I am happy to say that nobody was actually trying any on though.

Is your own fault if you go to Lidl on a Thursday. Saturday's at 7am I use to visit Lidl at TOTK and shopping is quiet relaxing then. By accident I went once on a Thursday in CY and it was like you said at the cloth area (Pants were flying...) But must say I can remember in Italy it was all the time like on a Thursday... but much cheaper than in a CY Lidl so it was worth to shop there. (1/2 price to other supermarkets)

Now that's a blog post you truly missed out on ;-)
My most viewed photo on my flickr account is a pair of big white pants :-D
