Anyone know of a VW Independent ??

Good morning,

I need a couple if jobs doing on my VW Passat. Does anyone know of an Independent around the Paphos area capable of working on one of these?

Don't really want to use the Main Stealer

Probably needs to have the VW diagnostic stuff

Did that work out ok for you, and did they have the diagnostics you needed? I may bring my Golf over to Cyprus, and will be looking for a good place. I'm hoping it won't mind too much dust and heat....

Hello Bograt

Everything worked out fine. The oil and filter change cost Eur 66. Very compatible with uk prices.

The initial enquiry concerned trying to find a VW trained mechanic, as the car has a DSG gearbox - described as a manual box with auto clutches- sometimes called a tiptronic box. Complicated with its own service schedule from VW (Oil change for that box alone was GBP 150 from a VW Independent.)

Broached the subject with Frank. He can service the box when the time comes. Also being in the trade, he has access to a network of professional advice ( He services Mercs, BMW' and Udi's also- some of which have similar gearboxes).

He doesn't have a VCDS, but has a compatible system, and access to VW Diagnostics at a friendly garage if needed- again in his network

Very happy with the outcome and the cost. I've used Frank for less complex cars before, and have been happy with the work ( over the last 7 years or so.)

Thank you Cheshire lad for such an informative reply. That's put my mind at ease, as I was wondering whether, should I bring the Golf over, I could find someone to look after it. It's a 2.0 TSI GTI with a DSG box, like yours. I'm not sure how cost effective it is to bring it over yet, but I'm reluctant to part with it. I'm also a bit concerned as to how well a car like that will cope with the dust and heat. Normally I'd prefer a Japanese car for Cyprus, I bootle about in a Terios (yes, I know!!) when I'm over in Cyprus and it never lets me down.

I suppose that the answer is related to your lifestyle over here.

My wife and I have a Passat 2 litre estate, and a Seat Ibiza Sport ( a Golf in another skin) both imported from the uk via Limassol.

I suppose that if you do 'ordinary motoring' , then it's much like the UK, but warmer. Less of that rusty- deterioration stuff and the car isn't adversely affected by the heat. We' had the cars a while, and knew their service history.

If your lifestyle is off-piste however, a 4x4 might fit the bill. We have the cars serviced every 10,000 miles and the air and oil filters changed, just to keep on top of everything. No real dust issues showing up in the air filters

Ah, good to know, thank you again for that. The Golf will be used for normal day to day driving, visits around the island where the roads are good, and just enjoying. The Terios will do the donkey work, off roading, and scampering round Akamas etc, poor little thing!
