UK Pensions

Post by MacManiac »

Has anyone else not received either their UK State Pension or UK Government pension today? We were due to receive three pensions today but have received nothing, I telephoned UK Teachers’ Pensions to be told “all their systems are down”. I have not yet got through to the International Pension Centre but suspect the same situation might apply.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Unbelievable. A recorded message from the International Pension Centre explains that no UK pensions were paid today because payments are authorised by an American bank, which was closed because of Thanksgiving. Millions of people will not be paid “for one or two working days”. We, fortunately, have substantial savings to call upon …

The UK government responsible should hang their heads in shame.

It appears that people expecting their UK State Pension payment last Friday are also affected by the Thanksgiving Holiday in the USA on Thursday.
Apparently it should clear into their account on Monday.

Our pensions arrived on Friday. No help at all from UK Teachers’ Pensions, claiming they did not know what was happening. At least the State Pensions’ Agency had a recorded message for telephone callers. A poor show all round in my opinion.

The U.S. bank Citi Corp have enormous data centres in America that pay government and private pensions from many countries to people all over the world, keeps the cost down. The downside is they are closed for U.S. public holidays. The upside for us outside the U.K. is that should events happen in the U.K. to prevent pensions being paid, public sector strikes etc, Citibank hold funds to continue paying us for a short while, up to three months I believe.

Just received confirmation from my contact that she has received the DWP state pension payment which was due last Friday into her Cyprus account.

She has also received the Christmas Bonus payment this morning of €11.32.
