Caught at the traffic lights
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
How very complicated!! I don't know how other countries manage without all these white lines..
So far I haven't encountered these challenges on the British road network....
But I'm very careful at all traffic lights, not just the ones with cameras.

If you have renewed your car insurance since you moved and updated your address with the insurance company then your official records will also have been updated.
I moved just before renewing my car insurance and after about 3 weeks went to the local CSC to pay the annual road tax.
When I showed the lady my rental contract with the new address she told me it was already on the system.

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Have found a few alternative routes to avoid some of these new speed camera traffic lights so I drive straight on rather than have to go through the ordeal of the right filter system. Also notice some people are stopping about a car length behind the first white line!

Thank you for that infogalexinda wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 5:35 pm Uncle D

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Although I can open the link to check traffic fines that AMS posted on Thursday am unable to save and use the link from my computer. Anyone know of a way this can be done??
Thanks
Chris

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
I've had trouble with both links timing out over the weekend. I will see if it'll work during weekdays.

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Strange. I have it saved as a bookmark and can enter my details to check for outstanding warrants.
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Interesting
I entered the details of my Permanent Residence Biometric Card which was issued over a year ago and valid for 10 years.
It has the ID number 0500xxxxxx
Just get the response: 'Something went wrong! Please try again later'.
So, I dug out my MEU3 issued in 2019, entered the details (using the date 10 years after it was issued as there is no expiry date).
It has the ID number 5xxxxxx
The response: 'There are no Pending Warrants against you with the information you searched for'.
Yes, I am able to save and open the link easily on my laptop for the following link:

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Apologies for bringing up this older item. I just checked to see if I have anything outstanding. On the cycamera website, it says I have a citation going back to September 24. However, when I check on the police.jcc site, it says no pending warrants. I've received nothing though the post. Does anybody know how I can follow this up please? Thanks.

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
From an internet search on the Statute of Limitations for road traffic offences in Cyprus i found this ---
There is a statute of limitations for road traffic offences in Cyprus. The police have 6 months from the date of the offence to resolve the matter, either through a Fixed Penalty Notice or by lodging papers at court. If the police fail to do so within this timeframe, the matter cannot proceed.
This means that if you are caught speeding, for example, the police have 6 months to issue you with a fine or take you to court. If they don't do so within that period, you are no longer liable for that particular offence. I would not stir the hornets nest, It's up to the authorities to pursue this within
their own timeframe.

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Thanks for your help 71 Trans Am. I still might register with the Ministry of Transport to check my full postal address was correctly input into their system back in 2020 (can't tell from the registration document as it only shows a few words).
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
They can trace your address from your number plate through your insurance, assuming that you have changed your address with them.

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
At lights where cameras are, are you suppose to wait at the line where the camera symbol is, or the line where the signals are.
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
When turning right at the lights is it ok to proceed over the white line and wait until an opportunity arises to take the turn? ( Standard practice)...
Was doing this and saw a flash ,but not sure if it was another car that just crossed the white line as the lights went red ..
Confusing....

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
daveg. It is quite possible that if you were in 'No Mans Land', when the lights changed to red, the flash you saw was more than likely triggered by you. I always wait behind the line now for oncoming traffic to clear.
When the camera flashed at me, it cost me 300 euros and 3 points on my license

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Let's make this simple, at camera traffic lights, if on red should you wait at the white line before the camera symbol or is it the white line just before the lights.
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
The camera is activated if any part of your car moves over the white line just before the lights while the lights are on Red. So ensure all of the car is behind the white line just before the lights all the time a red light is shown. And if part of your car is over the white line just before the lights when the camera turns to red do not move the car forward. The white line before the camera symbol and the camera symbol itself are irrelevant
If all of the car (including your back bumper etc) has crossed the white line just before the lights at the time the lights turn red then you should not get flashed.
If all of the car (including your back bumper etc) has crossed the white line just before the lights at the time the lights turn red then you should not get flashed.
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
It is ok to proceed if you clear the white line entirely (so normally you are the first car). If you are queing and part of your car has not crossed the white line before the lights turn red you can get caught. The key thing is if any part of your car moves over the white line when the light is on red you can get caught.daveg wrote: ↑Fri Aug 08, 2025 8:26 am When turning right at the lights is it ok to proceed over the white line and wait until an opportunity arises to take the turn? Stay behind the white line until you can get all of your vehicle across the white line ...

The good thing it has focused peoples minds when approaching traffic lights.
