GESY eligibility

Post by Poster12 »

Can anyone answer a question about eligibility for GESY ?

If a UK man age 55 was to take early retirement in the UK, and if he wanted to move to live permanently in Cyprus, and if he had sufficient income to apply for a Cyprus one year Temporary Residence Permit or “Pink Slip” that is renewed by him every year, will he be eligible for GESY in the first year of living in Cyprus ?

I assume the answer will be no

So, if he is not eligible for GESY in the first year of living in Cyprus, how many years will he have to live in Cyprus before he will be eligible for GESY ?

Will he have to wait for 12 years until he is eligible for the UK state pension at age 67 ?
Or will he be eligible for GESY before age 67 ?

So, what is the earliest he will become eligible for GESY ?
And on what grounds will he become eligible for GESY ?

The current criteria for gaining access to GESY is working and paying social insurance, being in receipt of the UK old age pension or having permanent residency which is the MEU3.

it takes about 5 years of permanent residency to get MEU3/MUKW3. Then you can apply for GESY. Until retirement age you pay 2.5% of your world wide income.
However I believe If you have come over after January 2020, to get permanent residency you have to prove your income is enough to support you and your family and also need to buy a brand new property worth at least 300K from a developer.
