Advert appearing on my post.

Post by Anarita John »

Just posted on Lloyd thread. An advert for Pet Friendly places has appeared at the end of my post. I didn't put it there. Just checked, it's now disappeared. Now it's back again.

These ads are popping up all the time, it's annoying but it seems I am unable to stop them.

The current one is for 350 + Exercise Books!

Sadly now there are many more adverts than there are postings. Maybe it is necessary, but it is annoying and regrettable

Ads are all controlled by Google. Believe it or not, I set them to the minimum allowed settings. On the main site there was an issue where Google was doubling them by mistake, but I was able to correct that. On the forum, it is controlled by the forum software and out of my hands.

The plus side is that they are from Google, so shouldn't include all the nonsense ones like "See what Susan Boyle looks like since her chin exploded" and "This 50s teen heartthrob is now old! See the shocking pictures".

The ads help pay the server costs. They don't help much, but they do a bit.

I think the increase might be down to AI, as it strips data from sites and presents them to users without them having to visit the site. Great for the user, until all they are left with is AI sites and no original content. The only way Google can counteract it is to put more ads on. At least, that's their logic.

There is a name for this AI regression. I was reading an article about it a while ago. Who knows, as the AI bots resort to scraping their own content for new ideas, they will eventually implode and let us get back to generating our own original content again.

Rest assured though, none of my blogs contain AI.

It's the first time I have seen an ad that looks as if it is part of the post.

I had one at the top saying "Paphos Life Shop" that had absolutely nothing to do with us. I will investigate further because that is very misleading.

I think I managed to get rid of the text one, but google seems to be doubling the regular ads for some reason. I shall keep on with my investigations. The site needs ads but it can't be smothered by them.

Right, I have turned off auto ads for the /forum pages. This should hopefully return them to how they were before autoads became a thing. If I recall that means one or two ads near the top of the page, with no duplicates etc.

It seems to take a while to filter through, so we shall see what it is like in the morning.
