Bill to prevent solar panel shutdowns ‘accepted in principle’ by state agencies
Re: Bill to prevent solar panel shutdowns ‘accepted in principle’ by state agencies
This is nuts.. never going to work.
The problem is a financial one.
Just give domestic consumers with an inveter cut off switch installed a new smart meter. Then whenver their inveter is cut off, give them free electricty and 4 units credit for every hour their inveter is cut off.

Not sure I have the technical nous to fully understand this but…. Surely the article itself states the real issue - “the root cause is Cyprus being isolated…”
Call me stupid but isn’t that the point of this great undersea connector project that’s supposed to be happening? This option sounds like messy sticking plaster cop out. And why on earth should any consumer pay more for any solution that’s covers up poor planning? ALL EAC customers, PV of not have been paying RES contributions on every Kw on every bill. Where’s that money gone?
Taking the comments literally - which is unfair on the journalist- if it literally prevents more being generated than is needed? Who for? Our house or the grid? Taken literally that implies you’d never build up enough ‘credit’ for evening / winter use?
All back to a complete lack of long term planning … in the country with the highest sunshine in the EU. Madness.

The interconnector is a massive waste of time and money.
If it works we will import electricity from the rest of Europe be charged more than Europe (to recoup the cost of building the cable etc) and not have any generation ability on the island. The alternative is that we end up paying for a white elephant.
The only people who will benefit are the politicians etc to receive contracts and / or brown envelopes
