When you travel up from Mesogi you will find workmen on the left cutting back the embankment, this is about 1klm from the lights and just after the escape road.

Embankment Work
Re: Embankment Work
It looks as though they will be widening the road. It may well be to add a 'crawler Lane' for heavily loaded wagons to use on their uphill struggle..

Re: Embankment Work
Verification in the local Greek press by Pafos Live:
"Work is in full swing on the old Paphos-Polios Chrysochous road for the construction of two additional uphill traffic lanes at difficult points on the motorway. One is being constructed on the section of the road from Mesogi to Tsada, on the traffic lane towards Tsada.
It is approximately 1.8 km long and extensive earthworks and removal of soil from the slope are being carried out for its construction. The second is being constructed on the section of the road from Giolo to Stroumbi, on the traffic lane towards Paphos, approximately 1.5 km long. The implementation of the project, which started a few weeks ago with a duration of 52 weeks, will cost €3,479,748.00 plus VAT.
The works are part of the second phase of the contract for the improvement of the existing Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road, after improvement works were carried out three years ago."

It's a shame as the two biggest bottlenecks are either sides of the top of the hill at Tsada.

Are the porta cabins near where Aphrodite Rock brewery used to be anything to do with the highway? It’s gonna be a busy stretch of road around there
If you never ask the question, the answer will always be....no
