Mavrokolympos Reservoir Update

Post by Dominic »

Recently they had to drain the Mavrokolympos Reservoir because it had sprung a leak. A couple of weeks have passed so we took the drone back to see how they had been getting on since the big empty.

Read the article and chat about it below...

I think this short video suits the article from Dominic as it is showing the nice design of the overflow when the dam is full...(very impressive)

I believe it will not happen this year though. Perhaps it make sense to divert the little river before it reaches the dam in order it dries out much faster and cleaning work can start.

Re the boat that is mentioned in the article.. "I spotted this boat here too. I guess in happier times that is used by fishermen or fans of watersports"
It is indeed used by fans of a water sport.
It is used for practising 'Dragon Boat Racing' where a team of people propel the boat as fast as they can with large paddles

I was just wondering if they could make it bigger now that it's empty, it always been quick to fill up an quick to empty over the years, so it's obviously not adequate for the area. Just saying.

There is certainly scope to add on a few metres.

Here's our latest film on it. Had I filmed it after reading your comment I would have included a more distant shot to see how much area would be affected.
