Maximum visits to GP on Gesy

Post by trevnhil »

I have just noticed at the start of the New Year, that I am only allowed 10 visits to my GP on the Yesy System in the 2025 calendar year.
Does anyone know what happens towards the end of the year, if I have an 11th visit?

It has always been 10 visits per year for people older than 65.

Information here about visits to your personal doctor & charges.

Trouble is if you ring for a repeat prescription, it's still classed as a visit.
I don't know what happens after 10, maybe there's a charge.

The followig copied from Gesy email after doctor visit
. As per the Decree of the Minister of Health pursuant to article 64(5) of the General Healthcare System Law (see here), the number of visits to Personal Doctors per calendar year means the visits for which the beneficiary is not required to pay any co-payment to the Personal Doctor. In the event that the beneficiary exceeds the number of visits to a Personal Doctor corresponding to his/her age group, the Personal Doctor may require the beneficiary to pay an additional co-payment of up to €15.
2. Means the total number of visits to a Personal Doctor, excluding telephone services and out of hours visits that took place within the current calendar year and have been recorded in the medical history of the beneficiary.

My wife phoned the doctors receptionist for myself and her repeat meds, spoke with the receptionist for about a minute, and the dr put a claim for both of us 60e for a minutes work,

WOW
What are you expected to do if you're on a repeat prescription for essential medication - stop taking it for 2 months every year?

Prescriptions are for 6 months and usually need to be reviewed every 6 months.
However, that brings down the Dr visits to 8, and if you need more than that, it seems that you are charged.

A friends husband is going for a procedure at his Dr today, the receptionist gave him a reminder call on Friday and this call counted as a Dr visit.

That really is silly.. The call was not initiated by the patient.. I am pretty certain that the GP I use is not as petty as that. Thank goodness that as far as I know, it is just visits to the GP that are counted because I have seen my surgeon, or a nurse, quite a few times already this year..
As well as my GP I make visits to three other branches of medicine.

That doesn't surprise me, they are getting very greedy, i hope the people who over see Gesy expentdture do something about it.

I believe that logging a repeat prescription request (I do mine by email) as a visit on Gesy is a Gesy requirement, not doctors being greedy. Something about a visit needing to be logged in order to create a prescription on Gesy.

But I can't remember where I heard that, so I may be wrong. I also seem to remember hearing that it doesn't count towards your annual maximum visits, but that's vague info I have at the back of my mind and I don't know where it came from.

If someone asks their doctor on their next actual visit, please share it here.

It is not good if phone calls in to the doctors reception are counted as visits. I see three other consultants at various hospitals and usually have to ring the GP's surgery to make sure my 6 months referral is still valid

Hi, Trev, like you I see three consultants having blood tests etc on a regular basis but when I reached the yesy contribution limit of 150 euros last year about October all charges ceased . Seeing consultants , blood tests ,doctors visits were free to end of the year but to start again the first day of the new year .

As soon as the Personal doctor issues a prescription or lab test it is recorded on the Beneficiary Record as a visit regardless of whether the patient saw the PD in person, via a phone call or email. People with chronic illnesses are eligible for longer periods of prescriptions.
After the maximum free visits to the Personal Doctor per annum (according to age) a fee of €15 is charged.

A visit to a Specialist Doctor costs €6 on GESY provided a referral from the Personal Doctor has been issued.
Without a referral the cost is €25 - apart from an appointment made with a Gynaecologist which is €6.

During a visit to my PD last week I noticed the receptionists were telling all patients that January 1st was the beginning of a new year and contributions would have to be paid until the €150 maximum was reached.

Since GESY began in 2019 I have contacted them a few times with various queries about prices and on one occasion a complaint and each time the incident was followed up. Send an Email to: info@gesy.org.cy with full details of the incident if you do not get a satisfactory response in the meantime.

lefkes, we are very alike. That is exactly what happened to me, including two operations in the Blue Cross Hospital.. It is good when you have nothing to pay :-)
It is strangely surprising that you do not have to pay anything to see your GP.

I think the original charge for a GP visit under gesy was €3, but I've never been charged it, so 10 visits would be €30, I dont mind paying at all, my petrol costs more than that to get there

My Personal Doctor told me that the limit for visits does not apply to people with a chronic condition.
