In Conwy, Wales, we recycle almost everything, except some hard plastic and polystyrene. We have 3 boxes, on a trolley, which we put out once a week to be collected. Top box, paper and grey card. Middle box, plastic and tins and bottom box brown card and glass. We also have an airtight small bin for food waste, which we put in a compostoble bag. Our general refuse bin is emptied once a month and is usually about one eighth full so we are recycling around 90% of our waste. Yes, there are some things that our council do not do well as regards waste management, such as lack of proper bins on the promenade, that people can put bin bags of waste, when the beach and promenade are busy.
Our recycling point, in Anarita, as most are unsupervised and is a disgrace. Glass all over the ground. Anything dumped. Huge amounts of card so the paper bins are nearly always overflowing. Old aircon units and lots of commercial waste. I suppose it is better dumping there than in the countryside.

They need to get better at the actual recycling part of this operation too. At the moment it is little more than compacting. In the UK they made park benches and whatnot out of recycled plastics. I read an article a couple of years ago about Cyprus which said that they had opted for a different form of processing which produced a material that they couldn't work with. Apparently it all gets shipped away now.

Bit of a head-shaking moment when I read that, has to be said...
