Minutes ago my landlord showed me a huge venomous snake he had to kill as it attacked him when he stepped on it while giving his donkeys water out of a barrel and his attention was not on the ground. The viper was ca 1.30 m long, quite fat and a thin tail end. (the typical Cypriot blunt-nosed viper)

Yesterday a lot of people were harvesting carobs by banging them with long sticks from the trees and loading them on a lorry which was driving forwards and backwards all day long, but this did obviously not scare the snake away from the place. So be careful if walking around and wear long strong trousers and boots and have your eyes on the ground not to step on them. If you make enough vibration on the ground they move slowly away.....
I could not believe my eyes when i saw the video Dominic was producing these days in shorts, walking through the bushes and giving his attention more or less to the tombs at Agios Georgios. (Cape Drepanum)

Thank you Max for this warning. I am clearing bi cacti from my land and as it happens I have denim jeans and boots on. But yesterday I had shorts and sandals on.. I think I had better always have my work clothes on..

I,m a member of a walking group.Good advice is when your walking through long grass and similar is to stamp your feet. The idea is that the vibration will scare them away.
