Flight cancellations.Compesation?

Post by Chaddy »

We,ve just had an horrendous experience with a flight cancellation.
We where in a,lets say,a far flung destination, packed up ready to fly home ( two legged ) when we got this text from
the airline ( which we all dread ) " your flight is cancelled ".
Panick sets in,we phoned the airline and had a bit of luck as we where, after being held on line for one and a half hours able to speak to a live human being. And all credit to him he was trying to be very helpfull
After another hour on the phone the live human being arranged another flight for us.........ONE WEEK LATER.This was because we had to fly into Paphos as originally booked.
I wont go into the difficulties of us eighty something year olds having to stay on for another week( in this far flung destination ) but it was stressful to say the least.
Do we have a claim? How do we go about it? Our internet savvy is about zero or less.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, you will need to contact your insurance company.

There are EU regulations about flight delay cancellation, but as you don't give the full information, we don't know exactly who/where?

It is a complex area, but most reputable airlines follow the rules and will pay up what is legally due.

There are some points that need to be clarified including was the airline European or not and what they offered you and also what you already accepted. The civil aviation Authority website is quite useful as is Citizens advise UK website.

I think the first port of call is to contact the airline and ask for compensation, then see what happens from there. 8-)
I started off with nothing and have most of it left !

Just wondered if you paid for the holiday by credit card and the credit card has some form of medical/travel insurance?
Once delayed by BA and our claim was settled by the credit card company (we had paid for flights only).

Exactly, where are you and what airline are you using?
