As you mentioned several times "Gyros", sold at takeaway shops, it is pronounced "jiros" in Cyprus.
It is quite difficult in Greek language when "Y" is involved, in this case you pronounce it "i" like in pity and the "G" like in Yeroskipou....
Another example for it is the Hotel Elysium, where the "y" is also pronounced "i" here.
This time good when you visit Google translate and you can listen how it is pronounced, however many times it is no good for Cypriot language as it varies a lot from Greek.
